the dates in jisoo's backyard happened a little more often. though they were laid back, jisoo was still making moves(no, not from him to jeonghan, he meant to say making moves to get jeonghan and seungcheol together) little by little.jeonghan was living in royalty. he's got perfect grades, hong jisoo, romantic moments with seungcheol, (platonic?)dates in the land of the matchmakers, and friends. though, when jisoo, jeonghan and his friends are in one room, jeonghan looks a little cray-cray because he's always taking to 'someone on the phone' (jisoo).
the well is like, fucking magical. when jeonghan wished for seungcheol advancing on him, he got a whole ass hong jisoo(even better than just seungcheol making moves on him) and his life literally got better. it has been better, for 4 months now.
4 months and jisoo still hasn't succeeded.
okay, jisoo was sure that seungcheol had been spending time with jeonghan so many times now that he wouldn't be surprised himself if seungcheol took the initiative to sit beside jeonghan without his help whatsoever. all jisoo needs is for seungcheol to confess.
(jisoo tried making seungcheol confess to jeonghan before, and all seungcheol said is 'i'm sorry, i think i should tell you this, i lost your highlighter.')
jisoo's clock is ticking, because chan is getting closer to seungcheol too. without any matchmaker. does that mean that he and jeonghan makes a bad team? nah. they can cheat, but that would build up a lot of guilt in their chests that would be a heavy burden later on.
"dude, all you talk about is jeonghan, jeonghan, jeonghan," hoshi complains, looking at his calloused hands. he lifts his gaze to look at the other matchmaker in the room, who was smiling stupendously. guess why? "and you came to my place to literally just tell me that."
"because—i have no other friends!" jisoo complained, pouting a little. hoshi shook his head. "what? who do you suggest i tell it to then?"
"the headmaster."
"no! what if being all squishy about your human is not allowed? i'm dead!"
"you are dead!" hoshi deadpans. "so you know that you're being all squishy about your human. does jeonghan know?"
"know what?"
"that you like him?" hoshi shot jisoo a teasing smile, eyes squinted as if he was investigating jisoo's physique. the other laughed at him derisively, raising a fist to threaten hoshi. hoshi only laughs.
"did the council fix the little glitch in the mirrors?" jisoo attempts to change the subject. he succeeds. if only he could succeed this fast in his mission.
"ah!" hoshi smiles, nodding. "they have. do you wish to go back? to see the love of your life?" jisoo only replied with a scowl.
the council mantains order between the human world and the city of carat. they are responsible for the mirrors, the management of diamonds, relations between matchmakers and humans, and they're mysterious. nobody has ever met any council member who presented themself as a council member.
the headmaster speaks for them. about their decisions, announcements and such. nobody knows why they hide.
"i'm going back because my heart is starting to hurt," jisoo says, quite literally. "he's trying to take my attention."
hoshi pretends to clear his throat before he muttered, "whipped." which jisoo happily ignored. more minutes of hanging with hoshi means more of jisoo's brain cells deteriorating.
jisoo heads to the main plaza, wondering what the problem might be now. previously, jeonghan cried over killing a cockroach, saying that 'what if he's the breadwinner of his family and i killed him', but when jisoo offered to bring jeonghan a cockroach farm, jeonghan only cried more.
two weeks ago: jeonghan cried because jeongin bought him an ice cream. he says 'it's very thoughtful and sweet of jeongin that it hurts', yeah, sure, tell that to jisoo who's hurting as well. how sentimental can jeonghan be?
"what?!" jisoo groaned, walking in jeonghan's living room. he witnesses the human sitting on the floor, laptop in front of him, bundled up in lots of layers and crying. of course. kdrama. "my god, jeonghan, can you like—stop crying?!"
"okay, jisoo-ssi," jeonghan says, turning around. the matchmaker is not even surprised when he sees jeonghan's puffy eyes with bags under them—he'd been binge watching again. "watch this with me. if you don't cry, i'll throw hands. come."
jeonghan stood up and grabs jisoo from where he stood, surprising the matchmaker at the sudden force. jisoo lets himself get dragged.
the show is called 'hi bye mama'. it's about a woman who died, and left her family on earth. she refused to be reincarnated, so she was given 49 days to be human again, and she must claim her place back in her family as a mother and a wife if she wishes to stay human. but her husband already had somebody else.
the said show hit jisoo in different places.
despite jisoo wanting to be human again, he doesn't know anyone in this world. he doesn't remember who he was, and neither will he remember jeonghan when he's human again. he doesn't have a family, he doesn't have a home. he doesn't even know himself.
imagine if jisoo had counted days to finish his mission with jeonghan? that would suck. he liked taking things slow, and as much as possible, without intervening so much between jeonghan and seungcheol.
oh yeah. seungcheol. jisoo feels like the main lead in that drama. he wants to let himself grow more fond of jeonghan because it feels amazing, but he can't. jisoo needs to make jeonghan happy by helping him with seungcheol.
as jisoo pondered, jeonghan suddenly grabbed the matchmaker's shoulder. jisoo doesn't look at jeonghan until he spoke. "jisoo." jeonghan calls.
jisoo looks up at jeonghan with a questioning look, tearing his eyes away from the laptop screen. the matchmaker was surprised to see jeonghan's face contorted in pain—yet he was not crying. "what is it? does something hurt? are you sick?"
"jisoo, i think i understand how you feel," jeonghan clutches his chest, visibly gulping as he tried to focus on jisoo's face. jisoo did not show any signs of distress, which helped jeonghan calm down. "are you crying?"
jisoo furrows his eyebrows, reaching for his cheek. his cheek, wet with salty tears that he did not even feel. he didn't know that he was crying, but he was not surprised. jisoo nods, wiping away his tears. "yes, why?"
jeonghan chuckles. "it's like those soulmate fanfics wherein they feel each other's pain or something," jeonghan smiles, letting go of both jisoo and his chest. "i...my heart hurts, all of a sudden."
jisoo perked up, curious of jeonghan's words. nobody told him that humans would also feel the pain of their matchmakers. or is it just a coincidence? maybe. jisoo doesn't know. he will ask junhui later. "i'm not sure if you're supposed to feel that, but i'm sorry."
"no need to be sorry," jeonghan says, carding his hair. jisoo noticed how often jeonghan did that trivial action. "i knew you were going to cry."
jisoo feels a smile breaking out, and he doesn't supress it. glancing at jeonghan and back at the screen, he says, "i understand this kdrama, out of all the things you made me watch. it hit close to home."
"it's nice, i know." jeonghan adds, shifting to the right. jisoo and jeonghan were now closer by some inches. "and if my heart hurting just when you were crying wasn't a coincidence, i think it's nice too."
"it's nice that you're hurting because of me?" jisoo says. "it's hard dealing with you crying over cockroaches or something."
jeonghan gives out a little wry laugh. "it's nice because i feel like i'm deeply connected to you or something. oh my god, wait. why am i speaking like we're going to fall in love?"
jisoo only laughs. i think i am going to fall in love, soon.
