To make a difference....maybe it isn't as impossible as it may seem....
(Ren's P.O.V)
I was cold. As if I had kicked the blankets off my cot.
Or as if the heater in my room had suddenly turned off...
My eyes opened as my consciousness registered how cold my body was, knocking me out of my sleep. I sat up instantly, shivering softly as goose bumps rose on my skin. I looked towards the heater in the middle of the attic.
I'd guessed right. It was off.
But as I gazed around my dimly lit room, dust from the concaves of the attic sitting amongst the stale air, I noticed something else pretty strange.
Morgana, my sometimes-pet-heater that liked to sleep ontop of me, was nowhere to be found.
No wonder I was so cold.
I stood up and stretched, shaking away the grogginess and changing my clothes. I turned the heater back on. Morgana was probably downstairs, I presumed.
But, as I started to make my way towards the staircase, I could feel I was already starting to slow down.
A single familiar feeling pulled at my chest, making everything just...
Well..
A little more difficult.
Once I reached the bottom floor, my body was already tense. I could tell, today was going to be one of the tough days.
Today was January 1st.
But really,
It was just another day without Akechi.

To my surprise, the cafe was empty. It was dark, with no lights on, all the machines shut off, and even the sign on the door was still turned to read 'closed' from the outside.
I was alone.
Which was odd, because it was a Sunday. Sojiro never left the cafe closed, unless it was for a specifically important reason.
Confusion filled me. Unable to come up with a good answer, I took out my cellphone.
Not a single message from anyone since last night.
The last message in my feed was from a friend from school, Kasumi. She had wished me Happy New Year, with a few emojis tacked onto the end of the text.
....Maybe because of the holiday, Sojiro decided to take the day off?
With a shrug, I scrolled through to find the last message I got from him.
