I woke up late today so in had to rush everything and go to school. I was Kate for the first lecture. After school I headed home straight because I had assignment and project to do.
"Oh my! I forgot my handout at school" I said rolling my veil around my head walking toward the door.
I took a taxi to school.
Walking through the quite hall way hearing and feeling the cool breeze running through the hall I opened my locker and took out all the books inside.
I reached home all worked up and hungry.
"I should have went to the bread shop" I thought.
The vibration of my phone made me jump in fear.
"Who is this!?"
Mr. salim.
"Hey" I said lazily
"Hello!"
"How are you?" He asked.
"Am fine but a little bit tired" I replied.
"Oh really, sannu" he said.
"I see you are disturbing Ammi"
"How?" He asked.
"You want to learn Hausa and she is the one to teach you"
"I told you already when we meet come with your pen and note"
"Zan koya mah" I said.
"I will"
"And the last sentence?" He asked
"I will teach you" I replied.
"Wow,I just jotted that down"
"Good student" I said laughing.
"I have to go, I have work to do" I said.
"Oh so am not work myself?" He asked in a teasing voice.
"Come on baby...."
"Who is your baby?"
"Come off it jor" I said laughing.
"I don't have you time, bye" I said
"Alright then"
"Bye" he said in a dramatic way making me laugh.
I threw my phone on the bed and laid flat in the wooden floor.
Salim has been my close friend we usually hang out at the bread shop and I go to his house for dinner. His mom has been really nice and loving I see her as my mom. After a lot of print out and reading I finally finished. I walked out of the room to the balcony enjoying the cool breeze and the razing sun the flashing through a distance.
It was getting late so I had to go in inside and take a warm bath.
I read, charted with some of my friends, got a phone call from salim. And lastly slept off not knowing while speaking to salim.
That was how the last few months of my life went on doing the same thing everyday.I walked out of the house making sure I closed the door and took my key with me. I waited for Mr Felix for some minutes.
"Good morning" I said.
"Morning, shall we" he said flashing his half rotten teeth.
We drove to our school and as usual I would ask him to stop by the gate and I would go in.
I was in my black abaya and golden veil rapped around my head hold on to my books trying to avoid eye contact with anybody.****
After class, I, Mary and zufaya went for a walk around the school cafeteria.
"Guys I need to tell you something" zufaya said.
We shook our head and looked at him.
"Mama told me we would be moving back to Africa"
"Like seriously I cant survive out there" I said flipping his hands in the air.
"Look who is talking"
"I can't wait to go to Africa" I said mimicking his voice.
"And now you are moving there you are complaining" I said dropping my books on the table.
"Babe, I can't okay? No electricity and the hear I can't take it"
"Who told you there is no electricity? I haven't been to your country but as far as I know you are one of the richest countries in Africa" I said
Mary was just listening to us without saying any thing.
"What ever" he replied.
With that i kept quite not wanting to argue with him. I wasn't in the mood.
My life lately has been okay I wouldn't say bad or good. My grades are dropping and Amma hasn't been sending enough money. She was broke and her job was occupied when she was home sick. I had to minimize my spending and made sure I keep up with the grades but reality seemed to be taken over me. I tried my best to hide all my worries and I succeeded.I was going through my gallery watching pictures of old times. Aysar, Niddiya Amma and Hadiya.
Hadiya! I dialed her number.
"Hello"
"Baby Yaya!" She exclaimed.
"How are you?" I asked.
"Am fine, how is school?"
"Good, everything is fine"
"How is Amma?" I asked.
"She is fine, she is up in her room"
"Okay"
I was avoiding my mom because I knew she would ask me to send my class details and test grades.
"How about your admission...." I asked
"Am still waiting" she replied.
"Allah ya bada SAA"
"Ameen" she replied.
"Make sure you keep Amma safe and fine" I said.
"I know, Baby yaya when are you coming back?"
"We miss you"
"I miss you too, soon after I write my last exams" I replied.
"Okay, bye Amma is calling me"
"And I know you are avoiding her" she said.
She knows me so well.
"Please just calm down get everything out of my mind and concentrate "
"Make us proud" she said
I already had tear running down my cheeks.
"Inshallah".
"I will call you later" she said
"Why?" I asked but she hunger up the call.
With that I dropped the phone and cried the world out
"Ya Allah! Help me" o kept saying till I slept of not knowing.
The vibration of my phone woke me up to see an emergency number.
"Who could this be?" I asked my self.
I picked the call and murmured a "Hello".
" Miss Halima you need to report to the city hospital right now "
"Why! Is anything wrong?" I asked standing on my feet.
I had no family member around.
"Mr. Salim had an accident and you were in of the important phone numbers in his phone.
My mind was blank and I wasn't thinking right.
I ran out of the house to the streets in my rob and my hair was opened running without shoes on my legs.
I could barely feel my legs.
"Please don't die!"
I couldn't breath anymore I had to stop.
"Ma'am, Are you okay?" A guy asked trying to sit me down.
"I need to get to the city hospital"
"Now!" I shouted.
"Calm down" I will take you there" he said leading me to his car.
