(Really short angst, also it's a zombie apocalypse AU)
There were zombies surrounding the group of teens, while more showed it than others, they were all terrified. Just one bite would turn you into one of them, and the zombies were approaching quickly. (None of that weak zombie shit, we're in Train to Busan-)
Leon and Sayaka had already been killed, along with Mukuro. It was terrifying, seeing their flesh ripped apart, hearing their bones snap. It terrified every single one of them. Mostly Kiyotaka. He'd never seen death up-close and personal, and seeing it so brutally...he was pretty terrified to say the least. Mondo had seen death before, not like it didn't faze him or something, but he was easily able to comfort Ishimaru because of that.
Ishimaru always felt better around Mondo, stronger even. Like he could get through this as long as Mondo was by his side. Even if the zombies were fast and hella terrifying, he knew at least Mondo would always be there when he needed him.
Even more today than ever...
The group decided to split up, although Yasuhiro said that it was probably a bad idea. Ishimaru didn't feel that great about splitting up either, but at least he was able to go with Mondo, so he was pretty okay with it because of that. Their job was to make a fort where everyone would hide in, it'd have to be sturdy, and have a wide enough frame to fit everyone in there, but the two were sure that they could do it.
They'd almost gotten done with about half of it, they were sweaty, but they were still pretty high in spirits. "Holy shit, we're already almost done! That's great, because I feel like giving up right about now." Mondo said smirking. "Bro! You know that cursing isn't appropriate!" Ishimaru said, trying not to yell. "We're in a fuckin zombie apocalypse and you still won't let me swear? You sure are a damn stickler for the rules eh?" Mondo snickered. Ishimaru smiled as well, it was nice to be laid back for once in his life.
They heard rustling, and they immediately got out of their carefree mood. A zombie, or one of their friends? Ishimaru and Mondo has their shovels in their hands ready to attack in the direction they heard the rustling.
Only the in the direction they heard the rustling
A zombie surprised Kiyotaka from the back, leaping at him and pushing him on the ground and instantly biting his arm. Mondo banged the zombie on the head with his shovel, but it was already too late... "Fuck Ishimaru!" Mondo yelled seeing the bite wound, panicking. "Mondo...you know what you have to do..." Ishimaru said, trying to keep his composure, but obviously shaking. "But..." He mumbled, being cut off by Kiyotaka. "NO! We did it Mukuro so why should I be any different? I'd rather be killed than be turned into a zombie! So just...do it!" Kiyotaka yelled at him, determination in his voice.
Tears started to form in Mondo's eyes, as he started to hold up the shovel, his hands shaking. Ishimaru noticed this and sighed. "It's alright, I should have been more alert, okay? So please just hurry up and do it..." A sad smile was on Ishimaru's face as he said that. "I'm...so sorry...." Mondo said holding the shovel up higher. Ishimaru looked down, still smiling. And...
THUD
Ishimaru dropped to the ground, bleeding from the head. Tears poured out of Mondo's eyes, not even believing what he just did. He mumbled apologies under his breath, still crying. He killed his best friend, he had indirectly been the reason for Daiya's death, but no, he killed Ishimaru. No doubt about it. He knew he had to leave, but not before giving Kiyotaka at least a proper burial, unlike all the other students had gotten when they died. He dug the grave for Ishimaru and slowly put his body in the dirt, tears still running down his face. He put the dirt over Kiyotaka's body, dropping the shovel and walking back to the base they agreed to stay at most of time.
Makoto, Yasuhiro, Byakuya, and Toko were already back. "Mondo! You're back! Where's Kiyotaka?" Makoto asked. "Where the hell do ya think he is?!" Mondo yelled at Makoto, startling him. Makoto instantly caught on, his face turning from shock and fear, to pure sadness as he saw Mondo walk off. "Kiyotaka too..? We only lost Mukuro a few days ago..." Yasuhiro mumbled. "I can tell he won't deal with this well, him and Taka were really close.." Toko added.
As more and more people entered the base, more and more asked where Kiyotaka was, getting the sad answer. Every time Mondo happened to overhear Makoto explaining it, he'd break down into tears again. Why Taka? He'd never done anything wrong. He never did anything to deserve that.So why him...?
(Holy Kazuichi's ass it's 2 in the morning)
