"Oh, they're all grown up!" Hope, the twins' mother, cried.
"I don't know about that, dear. They still seem quite small to me." Lyall replied, examining his children. They were usually the smallest in a group in one way or another. While Remus is quite tall, he is skinny, to the point of concern, due to his lycanthropy; the monthly transformations take a large toll on his body. Luna wasn't short for her age, but being eleven meant she wasn't exactly tall either. Plus, the Lupin family never had quite enough to eat. Both of the twins found it difficult to put on some muscle definition no matter what their parents tried. Yet, Despite their appearance, Lyall knew his children were tough-probably tougher than most of the children on the train.
Hope rolled her eyes at her husband, "Oh, hush. They're 11!"
"You were the one saying they looked all grown up!" Lyall defended himself whilst his wife leaned down to give her children a hug.
"You two be on your best behavior. Don't forget to thank Professor Dumbledore for allowing you to attend, Remus. You too, Luna." Hope said sternly. She decided she could never thank Dumbledore enough for the opportunity he's providing her only son: A chance at a real education and real friends. When Fenrir attacked, it was safe to say Hope well...gave up hope. She gave one last sentimental look at her children and gave them another squeeze. "oh I love you two. I'll miss you so much"
"Love you too, Mum" Luna and Remus replied. They wrapped their tiny arms around their father like it was the last time they'd ever feel his warm touch. But too quickly they let go, not wanting to embarrass themselves in front of their potential new friends by showing affection towards their family members. Disgusting.
"I hope Remus is going to be okay." Hope said to her husband after their children boarded the train. She couldn't help but worry for him. Ever since he was cursed with his affliction, he's been hidden. It's just too dangerous to let him outside with the normal kids. What if they found out about him? What would they do? Would he be shunned? Shamed? Tortured?
Lyall read the worry and anxiety on his wife's face like one would read the front page of the news. "He will be. He has Luna. And, trust me, Hogwarts is filled with the best of the best. Safest place on Earth" Lyall wrapped an arm around his wife and pulled her close to him. Hope leaned into the gentle warmth of her husband. She knew very little about Hogwarts, having never attended it herself. But her husband assured her every day that they would be happy and safe there.
Despite not wanting to look lame for loving their family, Remus and Luna couldn't separate themselves on the train. They found an empty compartment somewhere near the end of the train where they could sit together in peace. "So, are you excited?" Luna asked her brother. She was trying to sound brave, but a slight quiver in her voice gave her away. She felt a certain sense of protectiveness over her brother; That's always how'd she been. She was supposed to be the outgoing, brave, eccentric one and he was the little boy who stayed in the house even on the gorgeous summer day where the sky was cloudless and the grass danced with a gentle breeze.
The nerves Luna tried so hard to hide were not treated the same in her brother-Remus was quite obviously not excited. He was paler than the full moon, which made his pink scars stand out on his arms and face even more than normal. "No. What if everyone finds out? They'll know I'm a monster." He started biting his nails from nervousness, a habit he formed a few years ago. He's tried everything to break it, but his nails continue to reflect the constant state of worry he's lived in since Dumbledore's visit in March.
Luna smacked her brother on the side of his head. She's incredibly intolerant of idiots. "Remus, you are not a monster. How many times do I need to tell you? If I were some random person, I would say I'm the monster over you. You fold your socks! You willingly help mom clean the kitchen and do the laundry! So what if once a month you're some dangerous creature? You, Remus Lupin, are not dangerous at all. I won't let you think about yourself that way." Luna dug in her bag for some chocolate. "Here-your favorite." She handed him a special dark chocolate her family orders from Switzerland for special occasions. The milk chocolate still sat at the bottom of her bag. She was a great sister, but she had limits. Those limits being the chocolate she plans to eat this evening to celebrate her first night at Hogwarts.
