"Merry Christmas!" Remus said as he walked into his twin's room. Anyone who knows Luna knows that she despises being woken up early, but what they don't know is she used to be able to wake-up before 8 am without punching someone or something. This is no longer the case.
"What time is it?" Luna sat up groggily. She wasn't quite aware of her surroundings yet.
"8" Remus replied as he went to pull off the covers that are piled on top of his sister. This is the number one way to get her up since she hates being cold.
The cold shocked Luna. She liked to sleep in the freezing air and drown herself in blankets, so it was quite possibly cold enough to keep ice cream solid in her room. "Remus! No!" Luna lunged for her blankets.
Remus might be skinny, but for the past four months he had two roommates named Sirius and James who required a bit of strength and stamina to control. Well, control as best as Remus could. After living with those two, his reflexes got way better as it wasn't uncommon for random things to fly around and hit other people in the Gryffindor first year boys room. Therefore, Luna was no match for Remus. That's what happens when you have respectful roommates. There are simply some skills that you don't develop.
"Come on, Luna. It's Christmas! Presents..."
Luna didn't care about presents more than she cared about sleep. "Remus, the presents will still be there in an hour. Let me go back to sleep."
"No, let's do it now. We've been waiting for you." Luna just sat there and continued to stare at Remus, who had yet to give her back her blankets.
"Mom made french toast with powdered sugar" Luna was out before Remus even finished his sentence. If there's one thing that could get her moving, it was food. Especially her mom's specialty. Remus just sighed at his sister and threw the blankets on the ground.
Luna sprinted into the kitchen to see Remus hadn't lied to her. Let's just say the price of lying about food is something no one ever wants to know. She immediately sat down and started scarfing down her food.
"Slow down there, Luna. I'm shocked you haven't gained 500 pounds if you eat like that at school." Luna did not comment and kept merely shoveling food in her mouth as if she had never eaten before.
By the time Remus got downstairs, Luna had almost eaten half of her breakfast. "Merlin, Luna! How have you already eaten so much?"
"Well you see, you start by bringing the food to your mouth..." Luna was cut off by her father walking into the room.
"Ah, I see someone has gotten my sass"
"And flair for the dramatics" Hope added. Her husband was the most extra person on the planet.
"Now don't go saying it like that. There's nothing wrong with providing some extra entertainment to people's day."
"At least Remus doesn't act like you two. I don't know how I would survive." Hope sighed.
"Now, dear, don't go discounting our son. He's been known to be pretty sassy sometimes."
Luna shrugged. "He has his moments. However, I believe we claim the title of king and queen."
Lyall ruffled his daughter's hair. "Of course. And we expect you two" He glared at his wife and son "to treat us as such."
"Treat you as what? People with over inflated egos?" Remus asked.
Lyall and Luna both placed their hands over their heart and gasped at the same moment. The expressions on their faces were identical. Mouths open, eyes wide, eyebrows raised. A look of complete disbelief. This caused Hope to chuckle and roll her eyes at their antics.
"Our egos are perfectly inflated, thank you very much" Lyall said.
"We expect you to treat us as royalty." Luna said. "Bow down to us!" She screamed as she stood up with her mouth covered in white powdered sugar.
"How about presents first? Then we can talk about how we're not going to treat you as royalty" Hope ushered her family into the living room.
Luna and Lyall followed, but not without a lot of grumbling and complaining about their lack of respect in this household.
The twins didn't have many presents, but they never cared about that. They love Christmas because it was a time for them to be together, and somehow there has never been a full moon on Christmas yet.
"Mum first" the twins cried.
They handed their mom a small package wrapped in silver paper. Hope took her time unwrapping the package to find a small, blue box. She opened the lid and gasped. Inside was a delicate diamond necklace with the constellation that was above England on the night of the twin's birth. "It's..." she teared up. "It's beautiful" She didn't know what to say. This present was far too nice. The twins had no source of income. They didn't have an allowance or a job, and she didn't know how they would get money at Hogwarts.
But the twins had found a way. They started a tutoring service where they would help their peers for a sickle an hour. It was a very cheap rate, but enough students used it that it worked out. Luna worked on Transfiguration, Astronomy, and Charms. Remus was in charge of Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Herbology, and History of Magic. Their friends also paid them to clean the rooms and pack and do chores. Not that they had many chores at Hogwarts. And this was mostly just Remus. Luna's friends always cleaned up after themselves.
"Dad's turn!" The twins handed their father a larger package in gold paper. He unwrapped it to reveal a picture of the family with a handmade wooden frame. Engraved on it was, "Family is Forever". The twins had learned the spell earlier in the year. "Thank you" Lyall gave each of his children a bear hug.
Next it was time for the twins. They took turns opening presents. Luna went first and received a box of chocolate frogs from Alice, Cauldron cakes from Marlene, and a muggle book from Lily. From Remus, she got a new Gryffindor jumper, one size too big. Just how she liked it. This way she could smack people with the extra length in the sleeves or disappear from society. From her parents, she received a charm bracelet. Remus got Bertie Bott's every flavor jelly beans from James, dungbombs from Sirius, and chocolate frogs from Peter. Luna gave him a jumper with her face on it, which caused Lyall and Luna to burst into tears. He got some new books from his parents. Both twins received copious amounts of special chocolate from their parents.
As tradition goes, the twins each got different kinds of chocolate and were setting up a sort of trade. Luna had split hers into two piles: one she is willing to trade and one that he would have to kill her over. Remus did the same thing.
Lyall saw this and immediately took action. "Dad tax!" He stole from both the twins' 'over my dead body' piles.
Luna and Remus exchanged eye contact. Remus is usually the mellower twin, but no one messes with his chocolate. No one. "Let's get him" they said in unison.
They launched themselves at their father, knocking him to the ground despite his larger size. Luna grabbed the chocolate and started wrestling it out of her father's hands. She tried to pry each of his fingers off with her tiny hands, while Remus grabbed hold of the other arm and tried to prevent his dad from getting the chocolate in his mouth.
"Let it go!" Luna cried.
"NEVER!" Lyall replied.
"Give up, Dad! We're not letting you get to these chocolates!" Remus twisted his father's arm harshly. He would cut off his own hand before letting someone steal his chocolate. Moments like these were when Luna and Remus were undeniably siblings.
Hope, upon hearing the thunk of her husband hitting the ground, rushed into the living room to see the twins climbing on top of their father to get their chocolate back. She just shook her head. Lyall knew better than to mess with the twin's chocolate supply. It was his, and only his, problem.
