Astrea had hated telling Dorin what was going to happen. She had delayed it till the last possible minute, right up until the young women appeared on her doorstep. She had given the women a silent pleading look, which she thankfully understood. She had then quickly grabbed Dorin and pulled him inside, dreading his reaction. Astrea had taken a deep breath and had told him everything, even though he was only ten Dorin was clever and very mature for his age, and he probably would have figured something was up anyway. She had been pleasantly surprised at his reaction; Dorin had begun to do a happy dance with Carrots, clearly very excited for the unexpected trip. The pair had quickly packed their belongings, which was not very much, and stepped out of the house. It could have been the last time they would see the place for a long time. The young woman was being very mysterious as she had whistled a low note that echoed throughout the forest. There was a small speck in the sky where the girl's gaze led. Then a magnificent golden carriage had just flown out of nowhere. Dorin had been so excited, he and Carrots had jumped up and down, Dorin squealing excessively.
He had jumped right into the carriage when the stranger hooted, "all aboard!"
She couldn't move her feet at all, still shocked from what just happened. While she was still trying to wrap her head around it, Dorian had tugged her into it. The boy with the dimples had laughed as the girl in black climbed in behind her. If she weren't so shocked, she probably would be very paranoid about the stranger sitting next to Dorin, seemingly in deep conversation with him.
"Any questions Astrea?" started the girl sitting next to her. That's when she realised that she never actually asked the girl who she was the last time they met.
"Who are you?" Astrea hesitantly asked, biting her lip, trying to refrain from spilling out question after question.
She raised an eyebrow at her and answered, quite aware of the fact she was holding back her questions,"only one question this time? Usually you would ask question after question but this ti-"
"Yeah okay I get it I ask a lot of questions but you don't seem to want to answer mine," Astrea retorted with clenched teeth, trying to keep her cool.
"Feeling fiesty today, eh? Well don't get too wound up Rea, I'll tell you everything," Sadira explained with a voice so calm it almost made Astrea want to scream. Almost.
Astrea waited but Sadira didn't look as if she was going to open her smart mouth anytime soon, instead she got busy looking outside.
"Well? You said you would tell me," Astrea blurted, trying her hardest not to snap at Sadira, who in her defence, was being very trying.
"I will. Eventually," Sadira drawled with a smirk.
Astrea just sighed in annoyance. She crossed her arms and pouted like a little child. She tried to ignore Sadira by looking out of the window. She was passing over the city, it looked like fireflies from up there. A thin layer of clouds was obstructing her view of the edge of the city, where the land met water.
The boy had stopped talking to Dorin now and was now grinning at her. He leaned over to shake her hand and said "hey there, it's Astrea right? I'm Sam" Astrea smiled back.
"That slightly cold and annoying person sitting over there with the permanent sassy attitude and constant glares is ... drumroll please... Sadira!" he announced, loud enough so that everyone below would probably be wondering who that was, and of course Sadira gave him a mock glare.
"You are probably wondering why the hell you're here, want me to explain?" The dark-haired young woman smirked at him but he smirked right back, amusement clear in his eyes.
"That would be great thanks, your friend here doesn't seem like much of a talker," Astrea muttered to no one in particular and Sam laughed at the girl, Sadira, yet again gave him a death stare.
"Right then, you're Astrea Goldborne right? Well right now we are about to go to The Goldborne Academy, a special place for people especially with magic to train and learn how to defend themselves, even to fight. I believe it was set up by your great grandfather? What was it? Oh yeah, John Goldborne."
"We have reasons to believe that you have magic," Sadira cut in "Apparently you are needed for our mission. After a whole lot of training of course," Astrea stared at them both, then at Dorin, who was acting as if nothing had happened and was playing with Carrots.
"Well, are you up for it? If you're not we could always drop your body off in your slum of a city after we kill you right here right now?" Sadira whispered in her ear so Dorin wouldn't hear her.
Astrea glared at her trying to figure out whether or not she was joking and remarked with annoyance laced in her voice, "I guess I'm up for it then since you gave me a choice."
