SHOTO WAS ON EDGE, IT WAS
as obvious as day. his fingers would twitch slightly, he'd blush (though it would quickly disappear), and he spoke even less than usual, giving short responses. perhaps no one else noticed, but for someone as observant as y/n, she picked up on it rather quickly, so she pushed away her own troubles to ask about his. she knew she was dwelling too much on what had happened anyway, so she'd much rather talk to someone to get her mind off of it.
❝is something wrong, shoto?❞ she asked as she gazed at him, her e/c eyes trained on his beautiful grey and blue ones. his eyes were mesmerizing, she couldn't deny. but they weren't... his.
❝yes, y/n, i think there is,❞ he mumbled, tightening his grip on her hand ever so slightly. his thoughts were running a mile a minute, all of them about her. she's been plaguing his thoughts ever since he laid eyes upon her, to be honest. she was such a mystery, and he loved figuring people out.
❝elaborate for me?❞ she squeezed his hand softly as a way to calm down his overflowing thoughts. she didn't want to force him. she could wait if he didn't want to say. but if he was willing to talk, she wouldn't pass up the opportunity.
❝i think i like you. romantically.❞ he averted his eyes to the sidewalk they walked on, his expression almost embarrassed. the wind blew through his white and red hair, ruffling it ever so slightly, cooling down his burning ears. this would be his first time confessing to anyone — normally it being the opposite — and he hoped that he had done it right. all you were supposed to do was admit your feelings, right?
all she did she sigh sadly in response, sending him a small smile as she rubbed his hand with her thumb.

❝but you do not feel the same.❞ he declared as his eyes now examined hers. the music in her airpods had changed to a mellow, slow song, shoto had noticed. he could faintly hear the sad notes being played. he found it fascinating how her music would always be perfect for any situation. he found her fascinating.
the beauty shook her head and answered, confirming his thoughts, ❝unfortunately not.❞
❝why?❞ he questioned. he wasn't trying to intrude nor force her to expose herself, he was just curious as to why she felt the way she did. she was still a mystery to him, to everyone.
❝it's not because of you, i'll tell you that. i think you're rather wonderful, an amazing person who is destined for great things. and i would love to continue our friendship. however... my heart belongs to someone else. it always has,❞ the captivating girl smiled sadly as she tilted her head and gazed at the direction they came from- the school- memories playing in her head as she thought of the one that held her heart.
❝does he know?❞ todoroki knew exactly who she was talking about. his rival. and though he expected her words to hurt, he felt a peace resonate within him. at least she knows his feelings and her his. they also got to continue their friendship, it not wounding or changing the friendly relationship they had, and that made him rather happy, as well.
but her words... made him feel oddly sad for her. he didn't pity her, she knew that. but to be in love with someone who couldn't realize it, it was almost depressing.
