Kuro Herald waited for the girl in front of her to sit. She already knew that it would be Crystal. She scooped down her hood and rested her head on the back of the chair. If Crysti didn't come in a minute, she'd be late. The clock ticked down the seconds. 30 quickly became 20, and 20 became 10.

10...
A skid was heard down the hall

9...
Panting

8...
The panting was closing in

7...
A sliding sound came from right outside the door

6...
A drawstring backpack was flung through the door

5...
The girl tumbles through behind it

4...
She gets to her feet, hair still perfect

3...
She scrambles to the desk in front of Kuro

2...
She tosses the backpack next to the seat

1...
She sits just as the bell rings

Half the class applauded, the other half laughed. Kuro smiled. So this is what Crystal was like now. She anticipated excitement. Crystal turned around, and smiled at Kuro. "I didn't catch your name. I'm Crysti. I'm-"

"New here. I know. This is the kind of thing you'd do." Crysti, who had extended her arm, looked confused. Kuro decided to get the awkwardness over with. "I'm Kuro." She accepted the handshake as the teacher came in. This teacher was pretty laid back, as were most other teachers. "This is Mrs. Burns. She lets us have free periods when a new student arrives and, well, you're here, aren't you?" Kuro kicked her legs up onto the desk as she spoke.

"We have to stay in the classroom, right?" Crysti moved her hands away from the black boots propped up on the desk. He knew very little Japanese, but she knew some colors. This girl's name was literally "Black."

Kuro's earrings swayed back against her short bob. Finally, Crysti couldn't take it anymore. As politely as she could, she pointed to Kuro's hair. "I think you should grow your hair out. With those earrings and that makeup, I think long hair would be good on you," Crysti spouted. Kuro nodded thoughtfully.

The bell finally rang, but not before Crysti noticed Kuro mouthing something that strangely resembled "As you wish".
