Ricky pulls a voice recorder out of his duffel as Steve pops the lens off the Nikon. "Remember," Ricky says to us girls, "this is just a really casual interview. I'm only going to ask two questions per girl, and then we'll post your answers on the 502.4 website tonight." The four of us nod, all sitting side by side on the bench, as Steve had arranged us. The boys are standing over to the side, waiting patiently. Ricky turns to face them. "Then I'll come over to you guys for a few quick questions too." They all flash either a smile or thumbs up, ready for what is probably their millionth interview. Personally, I'm terrified. I've always hated public speaking, even to a little voice recorder. In high school, I took ceramics instead of drama, and journalism instead of speech, because I just hate talking while everyone's listening to me. And with the other girls, the radio reps, the bodyguards, and not to mention One Direction watching me, I'm as nervous as ever for the interview.

Steve turns on the camera and stands back, ready to snap pictures of the whole process. "Ready when you are," he tells Ricky.

Ricky immediately presses a red button on the voice recorder and brings it up to his face. "London Eye," he first says into the box. "Ok, let's start with your first reactions when the guys took your blindfolds off. When you turned around and saw them standing there, what was the first thing that crossed your mind?" He reaches over and holds the recorder in front of Lauren, who's first in the row.

Lauren glances over at the guys and blushes. "I was... definitely shocked!" she said, with a high, wavering voice. "It's certainly not everyday that you see Zayn Malik standing right in front of you." She quickly blushes and dips her head as some "awws" and a "you go, Zayn" come from the boys' side of the capsule.

Phoebe is fully prepared when the recorder comes her way. "Not only was I totally amazed, but I felt so lucky, you know?" she says in a perky voice. "So many girls deserve to be here, but I was chosen and I got the chance to meet five awesome guys!" She leans over and flashes a smile to the boys, who politely smile back. I can't help but wonder how calm Phoebe is; I'm still freaking out from breathing the same air as Paul, let alone One Direction.

Caitlin leans over to me. "Suuuck uuup," she trills softly, and I cover my mouth so Phoebe won't hear me giggle.

Ricky moves on to Caitlin. "Well, Nina and I were fans even during X-Factor," she explains, and pauses as the boys applaud her. "Beautiful," Niall announces. "Dedication," I hear Liam say, and the rest of them laugh.

"So when I turned around and saw Niall, for example," she continues, blushing at saying Niall's name, "it felt like I wasn't watching him on stage or on TV. I was also seeing someone real and down-to-earth, from before all the international fame set in."

Ricky nods. "Interesting," he says into the voice recorder, and then he turns to me. "Caitlin? First thoughts?"

I stare at him blankly as the recorder hovers in front of me. "Uhhh..." Jesus Christ. What WERE my first thoughts? Don't panic, I tell myself. Everyone's staring at you.

"I think-" My voice catches and I pause to cough. Dear God. "Sorry," I say, trying to smile it off. "I think that I was just excited to get to know the boys better." It's true; it's one of the main reasons I looked forward to this trip. "Like Caitlin said, I knew about them since the 2010 X-Factor, so after seeing them on nothing but a computer screen for almost two years, I was ready to spend a day with them, for real." My voice looses its shakiness as I speak, and I slowly get used to talking out loud. It's so awkward speaking about the guys while they're right there, watching me, but it has to be done.
