A/N: This was an idea that I had a long time ago (like pre-quarantine). This is less Moceit focused, but it's still included! It's all from Janus's perspective. Also, the fanart above is not mine! Pinterest gave it to me. Anyways, I hope this is good!
Light.
That's the first thing I see. Blinding light, obscuring my vision. All I can see for the first few seconds of my existence is white. Once the light starts to fade, I can see what looks like some kind of living area. There's a few people seated on a brown couch, all of them staring at me.
"Whoa..."
That's the first thing I hear. A boy wearing a black polo and dark blue suspenders was the first person I ever heard speak. It couldn't have been longer than ten seconds before a freckled boy in glasses wearing a light blue sweater with a cat on it spoke up.
"A new Side!" he gasped with a huge grin on his face. He jumped up off the couch and started to move towards me before being stopped by the third person in the room.
He looked older than the other two boys. He was dressed in a black tunic decorated with gold lacing, (a dragon embroidery wrapping around the collar of the tunic), and a rainbow sash crossing his torso. Atop his head was a golden crown, each gemstone a different color of the rainbow.
"Please restrain yourself, Morality. We don't want to scare the poor thing." he said, placing a hand on the giddy boy's shoulder.
"Sorry, Romulus" Morality said, embarrassed. Romulus smiled warmly and stood at the smaller boy's side.
"It's alright." He reassured the moral trait before turning his attention to me. His commanding eyes sent a jolt of panic through my veins. Something about him was scary, but also intriguing. Even though I was afraid of him, I wanted to know more about him. "Hi, there."
I open my mouth to respond, but instead a hiss escapes my lips. I sound like a snake! Embarrassed, I clap my hand over my mouth to stop the strange sound. Morality looks a little off-put, but Romulus doesn't even look fazed.
"Take your time. Try again." Romulus coaxes me. I nod and exercise my jaw, trying to figure out how to form words with my forked tongue.
"H..H..Hi." I manage to force out.
"Hello. My name is Romulus. I'm Thomas's Creativity."
"H..Hello, Romulussss~." I hiss again, clapping my hand to cover my mouth again. Romulus chuckles and moves my hand off my mouth.
That's the first thing I feel.
"It's okay. You don't need to feel embarrassed. We won't judge you for how you are, will we boys?" Romulus turned back to the other two boys.
"Nuh-uh." Morality shook his head, causing his curly hair to bounce in every direction.
"I supposed I will try to restrain myself from making any presumptions."
"Very good, Logic." Romulus laughed before leaning down to whisper in my ear. "Logic can be a bit of a Robert Downer Jr. but he means well."
"I ssssee." I nod, making a small mental note.
"So... can I give him a hug now?" Morality asked shyly.
"You'll have to ask him." Romulus shrugged, presenting me to the freckled boy. He was practically bouncing with excitement.
"Can I give you a hug? Please?"
"What'ssss a 'hug'?" I ask.
"I'll show you!"
Morality exclaimed happily before throwing his arms around me. Although my first reaction was that he was ambushing me, but his grip was too loose to be an attack. He seemed to be just... holding onto me. I have to admit, the warmth feels amazing. I hadn't even noticed how chilly I was feeling before Morality embraced me.
It sounds silly, but I want to keep his warmth around me a little while longer.
"That's adorable." Romulus smirked. I wasn't sure if he was referring to Morality's decision to hug me, or if he had somehow heard what I was thinking...
"Is there a purpose for the snake-like appearance on the left side of his body?" Logic piped up.
"I'm not quite sure yet." Romulus shrugged before rejoining Logic on the couch.
"Ssssnake-like appearance~?" I echo. It occurs to me that I don't even know what I look like.
Seemingly reading my thoughts, Romulus conjured up a handheld mirror and offered it to me. I take the mirror and see my face for the first time. The right side appears normal, but the left is covered with brown scales. My left eyes is yellow and slitted, ringed with pink skin. My left side looks monstrous.
I hate my left side.
"Come on!" Morality giggled and pulled me to sit down next to him on the couch. Romulus made the mirror I was holding vanish with the wave of his hand. I looked at the three other boys sitting around me. I feel freakish sitting among them. I feel grotesque.
"I like your eye." Romulus said out of the blue. It takes me a second to register what he had said.
"Thank you..."
"Can I touch your scales?" Morality asked. A little stunned by the forwardness of the question, I just nodded. Morality held out his hand and gently pet the left side of my face. He was the first person to ever touch them. Heck, I'd never even touched them! It felt nice, but a little too close.
"Okay, Morality. Let's not smother the guy." Romulus chuckled. With that Morality retracted his hand and sat cross-legged on the couch. Though he didn't move away from me. He stayed by my side.
"While we are administering compliments, I appreciate the simplicity of your attire." Logic said, looking me up and down. I look down and see that I'm dressed in black ¾ length shorts, a short sleeve yellow button down, and a black bowtie.
"Thanksss~."
"So, kid, you want to know your name or what?" Romulus asked, much too nonchalantly for my liking. For such an important detail, he certainly didn't seem very concerned about the importance of learning my own name.
"Umm, I-..." I stammered. Romulus chuckled and reached behind him. He took out what looked like a large leather book. It was a bit worn, but overall in good condition. He flipped through the book and stopped on one page. Romulus appeared to be scanning the page for something. After a few moments of pure silence, Romulus reached behind his back, making the book disappear again, and relaxed into the couch.
"Interesting."
"What?" Morality asked, looking from me to Romulus.
"Who is he?" Logic asked eagerly. Romulus held up a hand to silence them and focused solely on me. I felt the same combination of fear and intrigue as earlier.
"Come here." He said. Not seeing an alternative, I did as he asked. I stood in front of Romulus, and he took my hands in his. The instant our hands made contact, something new surged through me like a tidal wave. I'm not sure what the feeling is but now I feel like... things make a little more sense.
"Do you understand who you are?" Romulus asked, holding my hands tightly. I nod and see that Logic and Morality are looking at me with anticipation. Swallowing my fears, I let go of Romulus's hands and face them.
"I'm Denial. Nice to meet you all." I tried to sound confident, but even though I knew who I was now, I still didn't know the first thing about myself.
Logic looked at me a little strangely. I don't blame him at all. Compared to Creativity, Morality, and Logic... Denial doesn't sound very good. On the other hand, Morality's smile never faltered. Even after hearing my title he keeps giving me the same look of pure bliss. It's pretty comforting.
"Welcome to the world, Denial." Romulus said with a kind smile.
