Lexa's pov:

"Lexa? Clarke? Where are you guys going?" Lincoln asked as I led Clarke back into the house.

"I don't know, ask Lexa." Clarke shrugged, and I stopped at the front door.

"I can't explain now but maybe later. I'll call you soon Lincoln." And with that I walked out the front door with Clarke following behind me. We got in my car and I started driving to Green-Gate hospital, a super well known hospital that specifically deals with gastrointestinal and urinary cases.

"Are you going to tell me where we are going?" Clarke asked from the passenger seat.

"Are you going to let me do what I want to do there?"

Clarke paused for a second like she was considering the deal. "Yes. I trust you Lexa."

"I'm glad to hear that. We are going to Green-Gate hospital. I have an idea about the whole soulmates thing. Clarke no matter what happens and what they say, never forget that I love you."

"I love you too Lexa."

"Great. Are we uh...you know... back together?"

I noticed Clarke tense up and look out the window. "We shouldn't. It will be too hard when I'm gone."

"Ok. I understand that completely and respect your decision. Just know that I'm not ready to lose you Clarke. You aren't going anywhere yet. Also no matter what we are I still love you."

The rest of the car ride went by quickly and before we knew it I had parked and gotten out of the car with Clarke walking next to me. I reached my hand out and Clarke grabbed it, intertwining our fingers. No matter what happens inside this building, we are here together.

Clarke and I waked to the front desk and I talked to a woman who brought us to a private room. After a few minutes of waiting a doctor came in and we explained Clarke's situation.

"I was wondering if you could test me to see if I'm a match for Clarke." I asked, surprising both Clarke and the doctor.

"What? Lexa why would you do that?"

"Well I was thinking that we might be a match and I can give you one of my kidneys."

"What?! No way Lexa! That surgery is risky. I could never ask you to do that, you need your kidneys."

"No I need one kidney. I have two though, and I really wouldn't mind giving you one."

"Lexa-"

"Well hold on." The doctor interrupted us. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. How about we run the tests first to see if Ms. Woods here is even a match. If I'm being totally honest with you, the chances are low. Ms. Griffin here has an incredibly rare tissue type so I doubt it will be a match anyways."

I looked to Clarke and saw her think it over. After a few seconds, she reluctantly nodded her head, agreeing to my plan. "Ok. We are only testing though. Lexa promise me you won't get your hopes up."

"I promise Clarke." I said, leaning forward and placing a soft kiss on her forehead.

"Fantastic. I'll have one of the nurses start the testing process." The doctor smiled, moving to leave the room. When he was gone, Clarke turned to me and seemed fearful all of a sudden.

"What is it Clarke?"

"I don't what you to feel bad if this doesn't work Lexa. This is one of the reasons I haven't told anyone. The chances of us having a match with my rare tissue type are one in a million. I didn't want all my family and friends to come in and get tested only for them to hear they can't help. You understand right?"

"Of course I understand Clarke. This is yet another example of you doing everything in your power to protect the people you care about. You don't have to do that all on your own anymore. I want to carry that weight with you."

"Why?"

"Well, I love you. No that's not even a good way to put it anymore. It's beyond love Clarke. Call me crazy, but what I feel is real and strong and I feel it deep within me."

"I feel it too and I don't think you are crazy at all." Clarke whispered, leaning her forehead against my own. Right there in that moment, something within me changed. It was like the final piece of a puzzle was finished inside of me.

"Woah." We both gasped pulling away.

"Did you feel that?" I asked, looking into Clarke's hypnotic blue eyes.

"Yeah...What was that?"

Before I could try and answer, the door to our room was opened again and a nurse walked in. Within no time I had begun the long testing process with Clarke at my side. We started the process with the basics to make sure I could handle a surgery to begin with. This included a physical and psychosocial exam followed by more specific testing.

I had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get the rest of the tests rushed so we could do it all today but I didn't tell Clarke about that not wanting to worry her with financial details. The doctors and nurses took blood tests, chest X-rays, an echocardiogram, an electrocardiogram, a cardiac stress test, a cancer screening, a colonoscopy, a gynecological exam, and even a dental evaluation. We were probably at the doctor for at least 16 hours when it was all over. I was super tired and high from the meds after the colonoscopy which had me feeling super good.

It was so nice having Clarke next to me the whole time, and I felt even better then most probably do on the meds because of her. I was laying in a hospital bed and I felt my eye lids grow heavy.

"Lexa. You can go to sleep now." Clarke whispered, gently running her fingers up and down my arm soothingly from the chair next to the bed.

"No Clarke. I have to stay awake for the results of the blood tests. It's the last thing we need to know to see if we are a match."

"The lab won't have the results out until morning. Please. You are so sleepy, go to bed Lex."

"Only if you sleep next to me." I countered, scooting to the side of the bed to make room for Clarke.

Clarke looked away from me but even in my high state I could tell she was grinning. "Ok." Clarke finally conceded. "I'll lay with you."

Clarke climbed in the bed next to me and I opened my arms so she would cuddle with me.

"Thank you Lexa. For everything."

"Good night Clarkey. I love you."

"Goodnight Lex. I love you too." Clarke giggled, pressing a sweet kiss on the tip of my nose and then moving to get closer to me. I wrapped my arms around her body protectively and let out a sigh of relief, quickly falling asleep next to the love of my life.
