{ a/n- every chapter is from Sophie's POV, so I'm not going to put it at the beginning of every single chapter }
I walk up the driveway, noticing both of my parents cars are home. I stop a minute, pondering why both of them could be home so early, knowing they've been shooting all week. I just shrug and keep walking, figuring I'll know soon enough. I push the front door open and step inside my house. My house has looked the same since I was a little girl; cream walls, gray couch, red rug. The only room that has changed over the years is mine.
"Soph, you're home!" Dad says, coming from the kitchen to hug me.
"Hey dad." I reply, hugging him back. "Why are you and mom home so early tonight?"
"The shoot ended in the morning." Dad explains.
Mom is in the kitchen, attempting to cook something I'm not totally positive I want to put in my body.
"Mom?" I ask, giving her a look.
Mom scowls in my direction, knowing what the look means. "Yes, Sophie, I'm trying to cook."
"Why?" I question with a giggle.
"Hannah and Sarah are coming over for dinner, and they're bringing Maggie and Kyler." Dad says, going to help Mom cook.
I nod in understanding, realizing that this is an ongoing thing with Aunt Hannah and Mom; Mom wants to prove she can cook. I just wave a goodbye and take my back pack to my room.
Since I was young, I've always had these bright yellow walls in my room that just make me think of the sun. Even last year, when I redid my room, I didn't paint over them. I love the color.
I throw my backpack in my desk chair and sit on my bed, taking my phone out my back pocket. It buzzes with a message.
Maggie: I'm invading you're home tonight-according to my moms. Is Aunt Grace or Uncle Chester cooking?
I laugh at my cousin's question, typing a reply.
Me: My mom is cooking-yikes!
Maggie is only one year younger than me, and we've always got along with each other. From the day I met her when I was just barely one year old, I was protective of her. I didn't have any younger siblings to be protective of, so my cousins (who aren't even related to me by blood) got my protective nature.
Maggie: What is she cooking? Please tell me it's simple :/
Me: I couldn't tell what it was...
Maggie: I'm now slightly terrified. Are you going to the freshman party?
I roll my eyes at the screen, reading Maggie's question. This is my first year in high school, whether I want to or not, I kind of have to go to the freshman party if I want a social status at all.
Me: Obviously. Wanna tag along?
Maggie: If the warden will let me ;)
Aunt Sarah has always been a more strict parent. Aunt Hannah kept good on her word to raise her kids all hippie dippie, but Sarah will lay down the punishment when needed. They make a good team of parents. My parents would both give me anything if I asked, but I've never used that to my advantage with them.
"Sophie!" I hear Dad shouting.
"What is it?" I call back, opening my bedroom door.
"Please, go help your mom cook while I run to the store. I don't want the house burned down." Dad says with a laugh.
"Chester!" I hear Mom shout, trying to sound annoyed but her laughing giving it away.
"I'll supervise." I joke with a grin.
