I'm dreading first period. English, with Blaire. I trudge to the classroom, dragging out my steps so much I'm almost late to class. I slip into my seat just as the bell rings, slamming my notebook down on my desk. Blaire is already sitting next to me, looking straight ahead and avoiding eye contact.
"Alright class, on Friday we discussed the last two chapters of 'Grapes of Wrath.' Please turn and talk to your neighbor and make predictions as to what you think will happen next." Mr. Franklin instructs.
I turn to face Blaire and find her already looking at me. I'm about to speak when I'm distracted by her eyes, the green dancing in the light of the classroom.
"I'm sorry." I blurt out. "I'm sorry about Friday night."
"Oh my god, Sophie, you don't need to apologize." Blaire says.
"Really, I do. I feel terrible. I was just nervous, and I've never kissed anyone before and-" I continue before Blaire speaks.
"Will you go out with me?" She asks abruptly.
"W-what?" I stutter, trying to form an answer.
"I'm so sorry, that was really inappropriate. I shouldn't have asked that." Blaire apologizes immediately, blushing and looking away.
"I'd love to go out with you." I murmur, smiling apprehensively.
"You would?" Blaire says, her eyes meeting mine again. Those beautiful, emerald green eyes flecked with gold that enrapture me everytime I see them.
"I would." I reply, my heart fluttering in my chest.
Blaire and I spend the rest of class sneaking glances at each other and trying not to stare too long. Ten minutes before the bell rings, Blaire passes me a note.
"You look beautiful, by the way. <3"
I smile at her compliment, feeling my heart skip a beat. Maybe kissing Blaire wasn't so terrible after all.
