We kept driving, the snow seemed to have gone down a little, that or we had gotten used to driving over it.
"So, how's everyone feeling?" I asked, trying to make conversation, my nausea had mainly passed at this point, so I was doing well.
"Horrible" Cassie sighed
"Awful" Denny added. Clearly no one was in the mood for small talk today.
"Anything I can do?" I asked, trying my best to help out.
"Nah" Denny lamented
"Just shut up Jor" Cassie added, in her sisterly way.
"You want me to drive, Den?" I asked, I still wasn't ten out of ten, but I thought I was doing better than him.
"I CAN COPE FOR MYSELF, OKAY? I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP." He yelled, in a sudden fit of rage. I was too shocked to respond, I don't know if I had ever seen Denny really mad before. It was not a pleasant sight. We kept driving as an awkward silence came down upon us
"You know, Jordyn really doesn't mind driving if you need a break" Cassie soothed, after giving him some time to calm down.
"I told you, I am completely FINE" He snapped. Me and Cass looked at eachother, he must have been feeling pretty awful. I anxiously watched the speedometer tick up as Denny furrowed his brow, we needed to get Denny out from behind the wheel. Fast.
"Could we stop for a bathroom break at the next rest stop Denny, I'm not feeling too good" I lied, in an attempt to convince him to stop. There was no response. I watched out of the window anxiously as we zoomed past rest stop after rest stop, we needed to do something. I was desperately trying to figure out what we could do, when I heard Cassie throwing up over the car seat.
"Denny" she coughed "Can we stop for a second to clean this up" I have to admit her plan was ingenious. Either that or she genuinely needed to throw up at least... Den grudgingly stopped the car, and opened the door to go help Cassie, I went around the other side. I was just about to open the car door, when I heard a loud thud, and Cassie screaming. I ran around to the other side of the car, where I found Denny unconscious on the ice.
"JORY" Cassie yelled "HE WAS JUST GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, THEN HE-HE JUST WOBBLED OVER! JORDYN YOU HAVE TO HELP HIM!" I ran to Denny, there was no blood, but he must have hit his head pretty hard. I carried him into the passenger seat, where Cass met me anxiously. "Is he okay? He has to be okay, it wasn't that bad, right?" she stammered
"Breathe, Cassie, breathe, he's gonna be fine" I reassured her with fake confidence. "Hey Den, can you hear me?" Denny's body was limp and cold, me and Cass piled up blankets upon blankets to keep him warm but he didn't arouse. I made the executive decision to keep driving, sitting there waiting for him to wake up wasn't going to do us any good, so I cleaned up Cassie's seat and got moving. We had to go straight down the motorway for miles, so since there were no other cars, I put my foot down. Hard. We shot off like a bullet, as I watched the speedometer tick up, 100mph, 110, 120...
"JORDYN MERRILL, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING" Cassie screamed
"BEING HERE ISN'T GONNA DO US ANY GOOD. WE NEED TO GET TO THE CITY WHERE THERE'S MEDICAL SUPPLIES" I yelled, battling the volume of the wind. I kept driving at this pace for almost an hour, until I knew that out plain stretch of road would be coming to a halt soon. As we slowed down, I began to hear Denny stirr, and so I brought the car to a complete stop.
"Hey there Denny" I whispered gently "welcome back"
"Wha-what happened?" He croaked, his voice hoarse and ragged.
