I woke up to warmth surrounding me. Too much warmth in fact. My eyes flickered open, protesting at the light shining through the living room window. I heard a grumbling noise coming from beneath me- Oh my god! Cole! In my panicked and shocked state, I shoved him off me and he tumbled to the floor.
"I'm sorry!" I bounced onto my feet and tried to help him up. "I just woke up disoriented and didn't expect you to be here." I apologised.
"It's not a problem." He rubbed the sleep away from his eyes and stretched whilst yawning. "Gotta get up anyways." He stands up to collect his things on the coffee table.
"Oh, you're going somewhere? Do you have plans?" I asked, suddenly feeling a sense of rejection. I tried not to let him see the sadness in my eyes.
"Yeah, my friend, Danielle wants to hang out." He shrugged.
Danielle? Who the hell was she? And why did I suddenly want to rip out her eyeballs and make her choke on them? My palms grew sweaty and my fingertips started to tingle. Was this jealousy? Why would I feel jealous?
"Oh, ok..." I trailed off and stared at the window.
"Cee," He came over and put his hands on my shoulders, "You good? You've gone pale." He put his hand on my forehead.
"I'm fine." I batted his hand away. "Go, you've got plans, remember?" I playfully shoved him out of the door, wanting to be alone to figure out my feelings.
I slumped against the wooden door as it closed behind Cole, and slid down towards to floor.
Knowing my mum had gone straight to work from her boyfriend's house and my brother was probably still sleeping or playing some dumb video games, I decided to gather all the girls over so they'd stop harassing me for details.
Nola and I were laying on my bed, reading an article about the latest thriller movie coming out soon, Carlie was texting on her phone and Macy was going through my closet and begging me to go shopping with her.
"Ok," Carlie put her phone down on my desk, "I'm done now, so we can talk about your little sleepover, Cee." She winked at me.
I felt uneasy. I really didn't want to talk about the time we had spent together, it felt sort of precious to me, and I didn't want to betray him. But I couldn't hide this from them.
"So, Nola left unexpectedly," I gave her a pointed look, "And it was getting late so I asked him to stay over. We fell asleep whilst watching a movie, woke up and he left to hang out with his friend Danielle." I shrugged off and picked up my phone. No texts from Cole at all...
"Who the fuck is Danielle?" Macy poked her head out of my closet.
"I don't know. He just said it was a friend and I didn't ask." I answered sharply.
"Woah, don't get jealous Cee. After all, this is all fake." Carlie laughed.
"I'm not jealous... I'm just annoyed our plan is going to get messed up by this girl." I spat out the word 'girl'.
I'm not jealous. I can't be. It doesn't make any sense.
"Fair enough. Now what about you and Cole being besties, huh?" I felt like I was being interrogated.
"We was, as kids, but it fades away. We haven't spoken properly in years, and after we drifted, he started to be mean to me. Which you all know about." I give them the watered down version, I didn't want to share my Cole and our past with them. That was something personal.
"Ok... sure." Carlie said but she didn't look convinced, however she decided to drop it anyways.
"Oh shoot! That's the time? I've gotta go." Carlie dashed to her feet and grabbed her bag. "Sorry girls, I have a date with Parker. I will text you all later with details." She squealed as she ran out of the door.
