" A sex on the beach, or wherever you'd like really, and a pina collada please~" Manuela purred to the intimidated looking server in the dining hall with a wink. You'd agreed to meet her in the evening for a drink and a chat, but she seemed to have already made a start on the drinking part before you'd arrived.
"Hmph, they could at least pretend to get the joke." She rolled her eyes as the nervous waiter handed over the drinks from the serving station turned night time bar.
"It's because they're shy, I'm sure." You tried to reassure the older woman as the pair of you settled at a table.
"I just don't get it y/n, am I really that unattractive? I know I'm getting on in years, but still. Men would crawl all over me when I was younger, why it couldn't stay that way is beyond me." Manuela took a hefty gulp of her cocktail, licking her lips at the sugar coming off the glass' rim.
"Don't you think you're going a bit fast?" You nodded at the woman's drink, to which she snorted.
"Nonsense, between you and me I'm a heavy weight. Besides, it's not often cocktail night, it makes a nice change to wine."
"Aha, I see..." You could soon see yourself having to carry back your friend to her room by the end of the night, but you knew when alcohol was involved not even Seteth with his lectures could talk her out of it.
"Anyway y/n, aren't you seeing a nice young man yet? Or would you prefer a woman? Goddess knows you must have better luck than me." Manuela sighed as she swilled her drink round the glass. You hated to point it out, but it was probably her personality when drunk that scared potential suitors away. You decided it was better to keep quiet about that though, knowing the alcohol would at least numb her loneliness a little.
"Not yet, I mean I have plenty of friends here but you know, nothing on the romance front. The war has put a bit of a hold on things like that I guess. But that's ok, I've got you and my comrades." You shrugged, taking a sip of your drink. To be honest, when you spent time with Manuela marriage was the last thing on your mind as she lamented about men, mainly because you were just happy with her company, though some of her horror stories about relationships had truthfully deterred you somewhat.
"That's right, you have me, and I have you, but what I really need is a man! You can be my wingman, right y/n?" Manuela asked determinedly, sending a wink towards a nearby knight and causing him to suddenly lose interest in his drink and leave.
"Have you seen that guy before?"
Manuela nodded solemnly, finishing her drink.
"We had dinner one time but he started avoiding me ever since. Another?"
"Uh no thanks." You waved her away, motioning at your half full glass.
"I'll just grab another, give me a second."
Unfortunately, another turned into another, then another, and another, and before you knew it Manuela could barely stand. You'd had a few yourself so you were a little wobbly, but you were nothing like you paralytic friend.
"Easy now... Let's call it a night." You suggested as you clutched your friend, stopping her from staggering into another member of faculty.
"I just don't understand, it's so unfair, why do none of them stay?!" A drunk bawl wailed from her lips, drawing a few amused looks.
"I know, I know... Let's get you to bed..." you cooed, reassuring the mage as you began to lead her back to her room, albeit slowly as you took care not to bash into walls or fall into a hedge on the way there.
"I love you y/n, you're a good person, you really understand me...!"
Eventually you somehow made it up the stairs to her room and sat her down on the bed, before swivelling her round and pulling her shoes off. She'd have to sleep in her clothes, you were too tipsy to be coordinated enough to help her change.
"Goodnight Manuela."
You were answered by a snore as she pulled at her covers, the alcohol knocking her out with minimal effort. Shaking your head, you knew you were both likely to have a killer hangover in the morning. Quietly, you snuck out and shakily made your way back to your dorm, where you stayed until late afternoon the next day with a vomit bucket next to your bed, a banging headache and killer light sensitivity.
