It's always been super chilly in Seattle. Some days it wasn't as bad. But today it was really bad.

I rushed home in the rain from my flower shop job and noticed the red flag up on the mailbox. I opened it up to find a package with Ridgeway Boarding Schools embroider on the front. I was an only child so it had to be for me?

I walk in the house and my father is no where to be found but the smell of stuffed mushrooms lingers across my nose instantly.

I walk in the kitchen to find my mother taking stuffed mushrooms out of the oven. She turns around noticing I stepped in the room. "Mari you're home!" She says bringing me into a quick hug before grabbing seasoning out of the top cabinet. I sit down at the table and I tuck the package beside me.

I walk over to the cabinet and grab plates and silver wear. After they're all set i sit down. My father walks in moments later talking on his Bluetooth. He sits down and ends his call as my mother sits down. I start eating and then I remember the package "mom?" I get her attention away from hers and my fathers small talk. "There was a package in the mail today and it had a boarding school label on it?" I say pulling the package up to the table.

Both my mother and father look at each other then at me. "We've been waiting to tell you." She says putting my hand in hers.

I pull my hand away and her face changes to sad. "Tell me what?! You're shipping me off?!" I practically yell. "Mari were sending you to boarding school because your mother has been offered a job in Japan and my work is transferring there so we decided boarding school was the best idea considering you would have to learn a new language as well as take on a your work in Japanese! At least if you go to the boarding school you can keep your language and continue school in the states" I get up from my seat and walk to my room.

When I get to my room I go to my laptop and search up the school and open the package. Inside I find an acceptance letter and a complete package with who I'm rooming with, my room, what I should bring, my classes, and the campus map. Included is how long we can stay out and what we can and cannot do"

After searching around I look over at the picture on my desk and see the picture of me and my best friends, Kyle and Mikenna. I start crying and dial kyles number.

"Hello?" I say when he answers "are you ok?" He says "can you come over?" I cry "YA I'll grab Mikenna and we will be over there in 5" he says and hangs up.

Exactly 2 minutes later they're at my door. "Your mom let us in" Mikenna says running over to me "are you ok?" Kyle asks hugging me. "No I just found out I'm going to a boarding school!" Both Kyle and Mikennas jaws drop. Mikennas bright green eyes turn sad and she runs over to me, her strawberry red hair covering my wet face. Kyles eyes get glossy as he walks over to my laptop noticing the boarding school.

"This is where you're going?" He asks sitting in my wheelie chair. I nod my head into Mikennas hair. "This is in Arizona, that place is fucking hot Mari!" "And far away!" Mikenna cries into my shoulder. I didn't think about that. "When do you leave?" Kyle ask with his head in his hands. "After the summer" I say sitting back on my bed next to Mikenna.

"That's next week!" Mikenna screams. My mother walksin and tells my friends that they should go. "I'll call you guys" I tell them as they leave.

"Why did you tell them to go I'm never gonna see them again!" I yell with tears pouring down my face. She tried pulling me into her arms but I push away. "Mari I don't like the way you're acting! It's only for 1 year! Stop acting like it's forever!" She replies back with a mean tone.

After my mother leaves I decide to start packing. I grab my suitcase off the top shelf and I grab my duffel bag. As I'm packing clothes in my duffel bag I call my job and tell them I won't be coming back.

After all my clothes are packed im exhausted. I lay down on my bed and sleep quickly comes over me.
