"Yoohyeon...she studies in the same major as me, language. We met in class, and we immediately became good friends at the beginning of the academic year. And then, a few months ago..." You look at Minji, expecting her to continue. "A few months ago she asked me out. I said yes." Minji finishes, looking at you with an unreadable expression. She fiddles with the ropes on her shorts and you clear your throat. "Why didn't you tell me this sooner?" Minji shakes her head and chews her lip. "I was scared you were going to be mad at me." You laugh weakly. "Mad? Minji, that's stupid. I might look intimidating, but you know I would never be mad at you. I am really happy for you, Minji. So, when am I going to meet this lucky girl?" You wink at Minji. "Uhm, today, actually. I'm going to her house soon, you can come with me if you want to? She's a sweetheart, I'm sure she won't mind."

You walk to your house with Minji and stay for twenty minutes, having breakfast, showering and changing your clothes. You meet Minji waiting outside and ask her how far away Yoohyeon's house is. It turns out you need the car to get to Yoohyeon's, so you hail a taxi and the two of you get into the car, gossiping and giggling.

You arrive at Yoohyeon's house, and Minji rings the bell. "Yoohyeonie?" Somethings seems to have fallen down inside the house, ad you can hear a muffled voice curse and then say, "Minji? Is that you?" Minji opens the letterbox and shouts through the gap, "Yeah! It's  me. But there is a guest, so please put some clothes on!" You look at Minji puzzled and she blushes. "We're very close." She says quietly. You lift an eyebrow and laugh. "I can see that." The door opens and you can see Yoohyeon. She looks quite familiar, you are sure you have seen her around in the university. She wears a shirt and a blue skirt, the shirt's buttons are all strange and non-matching, probably because of haste. Her hair is dyed a blueish silver and reaches her hips, waving slightly. She smiles warmly at you. "You must be Siyeon! Minji always talks about you in the nicest way. Come in!" You step hesitatingly through the doorway and Minji follows you behind. Yoohyeon locks the door and walks to you and Minji, tripping over a shoe as she does so. Minji laughs and mumbles something about how clumsy her girlfriend is. Yoohyeon gestures for you to sit down on the sofa, and you do so, sinking into the soft cushion. Minji sits at your left while Yoohyeon gets lunch. "So. Why don't you tell me something about yourself, Siyeon?" Yoohyeon asks from the kitchen. "Okay...erm, should I come to the kitchen? Will you be able to hear me from here?" You hear some laughs and a prompt reply: "Nah, it's alright. Just talk from there." You shout into the kitchen,  "Um, okay." What are you meant to say? That you do english literature in university when in reality you feel better singing? Or maybe something more tame. "Okay...My name is Lee Siyeon and I'm nineteen. My birthday is October 1st and I like reading comics." Yoohyeon laughs again. "Yeah, unnie told me you work in a bookshop." Unnie? Why was Yoohyeon suddenly using honorifics to refer to Minji? Is if by magic, Yoohyeon answers your question. "Forgive me if my Korean is bad, I was born and brought up in America. I only came here for university." Hmmm. Yoohyeon is interesting. Clumsy, sure, funny, yes, but you sense a reluctance, a little bit of hesitation in her voice. Maybe that's why Minji was attracted to her. That air of mystery surrounding someone was something Minji enjoyed a lot, and peeling back all the layer of their soul like an onion was satisfying. Their real self shown only to Minji, because she was the only one to take the time to peel back all the layers and know the person. It had happened with you, and it was happening again with Yoohyeon.
