Ethan

"He's going to be really mad. He might even kill us or something. Oh why did I let her talk us out of it? Why..." The guard is so focused with his rumbling that he doesn't even notice me. Speaking of why I might be mad at them...., I grit my teeth in anger. I just hope they didn't let her get away. Not again

"What is going on? I thought I made it quite clear to you that I wanted Apate killed." I growl in anger at the guards. If that foolish woman has managed to elope, things could go very wrong. It looks like I'll have to kill her myself

"She deceived us my Lord. We had her cornered and we almost killed her, but somehow she managed to convince us not to" The head guard speaks. Brave, he sounds, but I can still hear a slight tremble in his voice.

"Of course she deceived you. Didn't you know that she is the goddess of deceit you morons? Why were you even listening to her in the first place? Your job was quite clear. Kill her, collect the Ichor(the blood of gods and goddesses), then bring it to me. But you fail even in the simplest of tasks. I might just decide to have you exiled."

I mutter a string of curses as I head back into the palace. Why do I get to have jerks and weaklings working for me. Since when has killing women known to be hard? She might be a goddess but still, she is feminine. Which means lesser power. I briefly recall the look on Phobos' face when he confidently declared to the council that I was no match against Apate. He even had the audacity to call me a softie. The rascal. I was going to show him who the softie is. I only need to kill the witch and my throne will be permanent.

I take off my Royal robes and put on a jacket and a baseball cap. I hate these kind of clothes. Doesn't seem like I have a choice anyway. My Royal clothes would automatically give me away. I then head to my cabinet and pick up a package. I smile at it as I put it in my pocket. I then take a knife and the bottles I store Ichor in. On my way out, I pick up my ambrosia and nectar. When fighting a goddess, you never know what might happen. I might be immortal but that doesn't mean that I can't get hurt. Being cautious pays off.

Hands in my pockets, I walk briskly, with my eyes on the ground. This way, no one will see my face. I look up from time to time, when very few people are around, to make sure am headed in the right direction. Of course the best place to start looking for that witch would be her house. At least if I can't find her there, I will find something that will lead me to her.

I turn right when I reach the outer courts of the palace. This is where most humans live, plus any non-human who is wanted. It serves as the best place for a hideout, probably because the humans hate their king, who happens to be me, and all other beings like him, and would not do anything to help them. Haa! But I can always force it out of them.

I survey the area, but everything seems normal enough. Everyone is going about their usual business and no one seems to notice me. Finding out where she lives is my only problem right now, and of course nobody would answer me if I asked them of her. Then I spot a small group of children quarrelling nearby. Perfect.

Eyes still down, I follow the sound of their voices till I reach the crowd. It looks like I stumbled upon a group of bullies. I look around, to make sure no one else is interested with them, then I squat and face the children. I lightly tap the one who looks like the victim on the shoulder.

"What?" She shouts, turning to face me. I smile slightly at her shocked face. She expected it to be one of the other kids. "Sorry" She mumbles. The others have also kept quiet upon noticing my presence. "Nothing to be sorry about, sweet girl. Is there any problem?" This I ask, after noticing her slightly puffy eyes, a clear indication that she has been crying and is the victim.

"They are the problem" She points to the other children, who in turn snicker at her. "Why do you have to be the problem. Weren't you taught that bullying is wrong?" I keep my voice neutral. No need to be harsh with them, they are still kids anyway.

The tall one with Auburn hair, folds her arms across her chest. Their leader, obviously. "Weren't you taught to mind your own business?" She speaks curtly, her voice daring. I have to smile at her audacity. I love brave people. I also hate mannerless brats. "Oh but I am" I reply with a slow smile then I turn my terror on her. She steps back at the sudden atmospheric change.

"What do you think you're capable...ooow" She scratches the back of her neck, and I can only tell she has felt the spider, by her sudden screams. I watch with a sly smile as the rest start screaming and run away. I turn to the other girl to find her staring after them open mouthed. When she turns to me, I can tell she's afraid.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. They got what they deserved" I give her a reassuring smile and she relaxes a bit. "I'm Anna. Are you new here? You look new." She extends her small hand and I take it. "Yes I am. I have been invited by a certain friend of mine but I forgot her address, do you think you can help me?" I play the lost traveller on her, hoping that she'll take the bait. I'd hate to hurt her. She seems sweet enough.

"Is it a she or a he?"

"Her name is Apate. I'm sure she's quite known around here. A kind lady, very good with children"

"Ooh Miss Apate. I do know her. Come along, I'll take you to her workplace." She jumps along and I follow her. Must be my lucky day. I'm careful to turn my face away from anyone who might look at me.

We pass a couple of houses and I follow her to the very back of a huge building. Most of it is isolated, save for a few people moving around. Looks like I won't need those blinding spells after all.

She heads to the farthest door and knocks. A reply comes from inside and she opens the door, beckoning with her other hand for me to follow. I slowly enter and lock the door behind me. Apate's back is turned to us. She continues doing whatever it is she was doing, and does not even turn to acknowledge us.

"Someone is here to see you miss. Said you invited him and he got lost on the way." The little girl speaks up. This forces Apate to turn, and when she does, her eyes collide with mine. I smile at her shock. Her fear is tangible though we are feet away. She definitely didn't expect me to hunt her down myself. I'm sure she was waiting for more of those worthless guards.

"Hello Apate. It's been long my dear friend"
