when you woke up the next morning, calum wasn't in bed. this surprised you because you were always the first up and calum was really drunk last night, so definitely would've been hungover. it was hard to mentally prepare yourself for today. you had no idea what was gonna go down, what words were gonna be said, or unsaid, or yelled.

You creeped downstairs to see the hallway was still dark and the curtains hadn't been opened yet. You walked into the living room and saw Calum lying on the couch, asleep.

'Calum,' you whispered, not wanting to startle him. he groaned and waved his hand at you, like he was signaling for you to go away and let him sleep longer. 'it's gonna be a long day, today, calum. we have a lot of things to discuss. up, now.'

'jeez,' he moaned, 'you're not my mum. let me sleep.'

'huh,' you scoffed, 'i know for a fact that your mum would be mad if she saw you like this. it's nearly 12. please, just get up.'

calum gave you the most horrible look. he looked disgusted. you sighed, 'here, i'll make you some eggs.'

'i'm not hungry.'

'ok...'

'can we just talk now and get it over with?' calum huffed.

'only if you fix your attitude. what the hell is up with you? you're not a teenager anymore!!' you yelled.

'oh for fucks sake, y/n. you're so controlling. nothing i ever bloody do is good enough for you!' calum shouted. it scared you. you've never been scared of him before, but he's never acted like this.

'what are you going to do?' you tried to sound calm.

'y/n speak english!! stop asking me questions without telling me what they're about!!'

'calum, i'm not shouting at you. please can we just talk normally.'

'oh my god, y/n!! you're treating me like a child! stop!!'

'well that's because you're bloody acting like one.' you replied in a harsh tone.

'oh fuck off. get off my case. what did i ever do to you? nothing!'

'calum, that's the problem. it's like i don't exist. you're talking to me like shit and i deserve more than that!'

calum scoffed and walked of into the other living room.

hours had passed and you two hadn't spoken since earlier. it was so important that you spoke soon, otherwise rumors would start to spread in the fandom and it would be worse for everyone, you, calum, the band and the fans. you walked into the snug, where calum was and just looked at him, his eyes glued to the television screen. he really was acting like a child, but you didn't dare say that to him again. 'hey, cal. i'm sorry for shouting earlier. we just really need to talk about this without getting mad at each other. please can we try again. i promise i won't shout.' calum finally looked over to you. 'okay,' he said, 'calmly, yea?'

'yup,' you gave calum a small smile and he returned it and patted the spot next to him on the sofa and you sat down.

it was quiet for a while. it wasn't awkward, though. it was never awkward with calum, or any of the boys or their girls to be fair, it was amazing how well you all got on.

'when are you going to break the news to everyone. the fans, the boys, management?' you asked.

'what news?' he looked really confused.

you cleared your throat. 'erm, that we've broken up.' he looked you dead in the eye and also cleared his throat. 'broken up?' he said, though his voice was hoarse, 'i, erm... we're, you, huh?' he was confused, which confused you. he broke up with you when he kicked you out of the house. 'pffff,' you sighed, 'we're just not as close as we used to be, you know. we've distanced. i mean, you've got a crazy job, which not many people get to have and you're away a lot. i, erm, i have a company to run. you should focus on your career. focus on your fans, your music. you shouldn't have to worry about what's going on at home, or about me.' you looked down at your lap and played with your thumbs.

'yea,' calum said, 'i guess that's best, then, ending things between us.' you looked at him and nodded. he gave you a small smile. there was a long silence, you both just looking at the wall. it kinda hurt you that he didn't stand up for your relationship, that it didn't mean that much to him, but it didn't surprise you that he didn't. he just didn't care anymore. he didn't love you anymore. you'll never stop loving him, though, but he'll never understand that.

'i'm gonna go and take a walk,' you said.
