To Be Happy

The plan to get in was simple. A bunch of the digimon were going to be wearing fake black rings and will bring the chosen in as well as a few other digimon in as prisoners. Once the Veggiemon bring them to where the hostage digimon were being held, they strike, freeing the hostages and then making a run for it.

That was all well and good. That is until they got cornered by Redveggiemon and the rest. Everyone got held down by the Veggiemon while Veemon was taking hits from Redveggiemon. This was like one of those movies of corrupt prisons come to life. Veemon was knocked into the control spire, causing it to spark and crack. Then Gabumon digivolved. It was the control spire, Seiji realized. It controlled the digimon and let out a signal to stop the digimon from digivolving. This was a break through, Seiji thought, as they had won the day.

However, there was more pressing matters, in Seiji's opinion, to attend to. Davis. Veemon was trying to fight Redveggiemon by himself to try and make Davis happy. This could not happen again. He needed to find out what was wrong, or it might happen again and Veemon might have to start over again. He couldn't have that. Davis would never forgive himself if it happened again, or if something worse happened. So as they walked home, Seiji tagging along to go to Davis' house, he stopped him and pulled him to a bench. Kudamon and Demiveemon were asleep, so it was fine to have this conversation now.

"What's wrong? All day you've been moody and off. Veemon got badly beaten today because of it." Seiji said. "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing." Davis muttered, like a kicked puppy.

"No it's not nothing. Davis, I've been seeing it all day long. Veemon noticed it too." Seiji insisted. "You have to tell me what's wrong or I won't be able to help you."

Davis looked at Seiji and sighed. He really didn't want to have this conversation, but if Seiji was getting worried, well then he'd talk. "You've been hanging out with everyone a lot. I feel like I keep getting left out or that I'm being treated as a joke."

"What do you mean Davis?"

"I kind of missed it when it was just us and Kari. I feel like we don't hang out as much. You've changed a lot, you're making friends, and I'm happy for you, but I kind of miss my best friend." Davis explained. "All this fighting against that Digimon Emperor and all. You've spending more time with everyone else. I... I probably just sound stupid."

Seiji thought back to how Davis has been interacting with everyone. Davis and TK didn't get along. Cody doesn't really have any proper conversations with Davis. Yolei and him butt heads every now and then. Kari always stands against him when it involves TK. He should've saw it, but he hadn't and he had no excuse for it. Davis feels like the outsider right now in this group. He only hangs out with his soccer buddies during soccer practice because he's devoting his free time to helping save the Digital World. He was feeling just as alone as he did when he had to move to Odaiba after the accident.

"Davis it's not stupid and I'm so sorry I didn't notice sooner." Seiji apologized. "I didn't mean to suddenly stop hanging out with you. After... after my mom died, you gave me the courage I needed to start being a kid again. How about we go get ramen from the nearest noodle cart, my treat?"

"Heh okay deal." Davis smiled. He was going to be okay, they both were. Seiji was going to be there for Davis and vice versa like always. Of course, he was going to have to also talk to Kari too. However, right now was the perfect moment just for them to enjoy and unwind. It's not okay right now, but they'd fix this, slowly but surely they'll get through this. Just like Demiveemon, Seiji wanted Davis to be happy. So they'll work on it, a little at a time.

"So... June really didn't say anything bad about me?"

"Pfft no! We both know already she only says bad things about you when you're around!"
