The next day, it was nine o'clock when Maggie had gotten up. The bed beside her was empty since Neveah wasn't over and Maggie had the room to herself. With a groan, she slipped a pair of sandals on before grabbing her things and heading down the hall to the shower room. There were quite a few other people awake, most had finished eating and were set for the day. She had no plans on eating breakfast that morning and would settle for a large lunch.
The evening before, Dwayne and Maggie had gone into the dorm building after tying off the horse and ran to the Varsity floor. Maggie had stayed long enough to listen to the varsity boys argue and the JV team laugh before she'd wandered off. Dwayne had remained because his teammates were still there and she explained she would see him around.
Maggie was not aware of the showdown the two teams had concluded to. Varsity wasn't worried and JV wasn't either, both sides thinking they were going to take down the other. However, it definitely wasn't going down that way. Varsity had the upper hand and not because they were older, but they knew the way of two way hockey and worked hard for it.
With a sigh, Maggie sat down on the steps at the dorm building, watching people pass by. She lifted the jacket sleeve from her wrist and stared at the time. She sighed again and shook her head, willing to wait a bit more. She was looking forward to this, to show her friend around the city.
Ten thirty.
He wasn't here.
Where are you, Dwayne? She asked herself.
Dwayne had completely forgotten, at that moment in time, that he had plans with Maggie. By the time he remembered, it was seven thirty in morning when he'd gotten ready for the showdown and realized he had plans. The only he wished for is that the game would end before nine thirty. He wanted to tell her that he might've been late, but didn't have a number to her dorm, nor a phone, so he couldn't do much more. He couldn't leave a note taped to her locker because school was out and he couldn't tell her brother because he too was in the showdown.
The showdown was merely over with Varsity winning and kicking JV's ass. All of them were dead tired and couldn't keep up anymore with Varsity, but were doing their best. JV thought Varsity was cheap shooting them, but Varsity played by the rules of two way hockey. They were vultures around the net and took every chance they had for the puck, and of course, they were rough.
Maggie rubbed her face and looked to her watch, it was ten forty-five. Only been fifteen minutes more since she last looked at the time. Getting off the steps, she turned and walked up the steps, going for the doors. Grabbing the handle, she pulled the door wide open and walked inside. Nevaeh appeared from down the hall and was thankful to see Maggie entering the building, she ran over in a hurry, placing both hands to the girl's shoulders.
"Maggie! Oh my god, I'm glad to see you!" She called.
Maggie furrowed her brows, looking to her best friend in ponder. "What's going on?" She said hesitantly, unsure of what to say.
"Did you hear what happened?" She shook her head. "C'mere." She waved, taking Maggie's hand and dragged her down the hall.
"Nev." She said. "Nev!" She gritted as her shoes slid across the tiled floors. Running to the fa side of the building, the wall was covered in windows and looked directly to Eden Hall.
The girls stopped at the window, Nevaeh placed both hands to the window and stared out at the people flooding out in anger. Maggie watched as Charlie and Fulton stormed out of the doors where the arena had come from. Behind them, Rick and Cole followed as they taunted the boys, a sweaty mess and half dressed in their hockey gear.
"The guy got it handed to him." Nevaeh shook her head with a grin. "Deserves for the way he treated us." She scoffed.
"I don't get it." Maggie shook her head.
Nevaeh turned quickly and faced her friend, who slowly looked away from the window. "Coach Orion barged right in there and kicked Varsity out."
"For what?" She didn't understand.
"Varsity and JV had a showdown against each other. That guy stormed in there and cut it off during a fight."
Maggie shook her head, not believing they would do that. That Varsity would engage into such activity with JV. Now, she knew the reason behind why Dwayne wasn't there when he'd asked her for a tour of the town. It made sense, but it frustrated her on why neither team simply couldn't get along for the sake of it.
They looked back to the window, Varsity walked back inside the school as Charlie and Fulton had left. "I can't believe that guy!" Charlie called, busting through the door.
"That guy's nuts." Fulton agreed.
Charlie stopped, seeing Maggie and Nevaeh there. Quickly, Nevaeh's eyes widened and she pushed off from Maggie, running down the hallway. "Nev-" Maggie said, but was left alone. Charlie turned and walked over to her with anger in his eyes and fists balled, head shaking as Fulton followed.
Both were a sweaty mess, changed quickly into their street clothes, and stared down at the shorter girl. "You got him, didn't you?" Charlie asked.
"What? No." She shook her head. "I didn't even know until just now."
"Yeah right." He scoffed. "You been using us for them." He points, referring to Varsity. "Once a snob, always a snob."
"Can't believe Dwayne doesn't see it." Fulton shot.
"Because I'm not a complete snob." She said casually, not getting mad at them because there wasn't a point to that. "I'm also not the issue, it's you, Conway." She poked his chest and he shook his head, not liking that.
"It's you."
"That's why your team would prefer to hang out with me, right?" She raised a brow. "You're stubborn, but if you'd just listen to me, you would know you're the reason none of you are who you truly are."
"Let's get out of here, Man." Fulton said, pulling Charlie away.
"See you around." She said, walking by them and headed in the opposing direction, going to her dorm since she no longer had plans for the afternoon.
