something' stupid - Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra

+++

it's the 23rd of december. Jungkook tucked on his green apron before he leaned on the counter, head in the palm of his hand, eyes closed, lashes resting on his cheeks. he had to work from 6pm to 10pm in the café near his university's campus. it was 8 already and he didn't expect anyone to come anymore. he had already washed and packed away all the dishes and cleaned all the tables and the floor.

Frank Sinatra sang him to sleep and Jungkook would've probably drifted away if the doorbell of the coffeeshop didn't suddenly ring.

"hi what can i get you?"

Jungkook slowly stood up but didn't bother looking at the customer coming in. his eyes were too heavy, his mind too tired.

"one tall hibiscus milk tea please."

the voice made Jungkook shiver. it was deep and dark but not in the raspy type of way, no. more like the ocean, wide and mysterious. Jungkook wanted to take dip, dive into the waves, explore what laid on the deep grounds of said ocean.

he looked up and met eyes with a young man standing in front of him, carefully shaking off little snowflakes that sat in his hair and on his shoulders. he wore a long brown coat that matched his beige tote bag, which hung loosely on his right shoulder. it had a print on it of an art piece Jungkook saw before but he couldn't remember the name.

he snapped out of his thoughts, realizing how long he must've stared. his fingers quickly tapped in the order.

"5.30 please."

"do you accept apple pay?"

"oh y- yes."

why was he stuttering?!

Jungkook watched as the other took his phone out of his left pocket to pay. every move he made looked so elegant, so gentle. he did everything in such a relaxed way, Jungkook completely forgot that he was at work and had a job to do. he turned around to prepare the order while the other was scrolling on his phone.

with the milktea in one hand and his phone in the other, the costumer sat down at one of the window seats across the counter. Jungkook couldn't take his eyes off of him. the young man took off his coat and laid it down beside him on the chocolate brown sofa. he took an ipad and pen out of his bag and tapped on it a few times. all of a sudden he looked at jungkook, an amused expression on his face, eyebrows raised. the barista's heart dropped, his eyes widened and his cheeks flushed red. he turned around and facepalmed himself.

why are you so embarrassing? What's up with this behavior Jungkook?

he flicked his finger against his temple.

snap out of it!

he kept himself busy, just so his eyes didn't have a chance to wander off and take a glance at the late night costumer.
so he cleaned the dishes a second time. and the tables. and the floor.

he stayed until the café closed. at exactly 9.50 he locked his ipad and placed it back in the bag. he put on his coat in the most chic and elegant way possible.

"goodbye."

Jungkook got out a small "goodbye", his eyes following every move of the other until he left the coffeehouse and was out of sight.
