Chapter 39: The blunt sword is the sharpest.

A feeling of dread was shared by the guards and eastern warriors. A very dark aura was suddenly surrounding them. A gush of strong wind knocked a few who didn't anticipate it. From a distance something sizzled. Burned. And the thick air of putrid smoke became darker, now almost black.

When the rumble finally started to clear, they were all pinned to the ground where they stood. There stood in the middle, in all its size and glory, the deadly dog demon. Sesshomaru's true youkai form.

He let out a growl. Large set of very sharp fangs bared for all to see. Blood-shot eyes ever so slightly moving, scanning each one of his prey. He looked like a rabid dog, ready to attack and devour.

A panicked soldier made the mistake of releasing his arrow. In an instant, a swift motion of his tail knocked down 10 soldiers. The yokai bit off the draperies on the walls and knocked the stone pillars down with ease. It slammed down the portcullises shut with its large claws, trapping everyone inside the ceremonial chamber.

He's rampaging. Jaken feared for his mistress' safety. But Rin was too far out of his reach for him to drag her to safety. Kohaku arrived but is also fending off Koga and the other soldiers. Primal instinct tells him to attack. The smell of blood from the injured soldiers drives him crazy. He's attacking indiscriminately.

Several wolf clan members tried to fight back but failed miserably.

"Aim for his wounds you idiots!" Koga barked out his orders to his henchmen while fending off Kohaku's attacks.

"We need to immobilize him or we'd all be dead." He punched kohaku in the gut to drive his point home. But the lad proved to be a challenge. He's a good fighter. He'd admit that much if not for the urgent matter at hand.

He knew it was risky pushing Sesshomaru to the brink of insanity, awakening his demon blood. He knew that all too well. After all, despite the bad blood between them, no one knew the western lord better than Koga. Who else to par Onigumo's powers, if not Sesshomaru.

"Why would we believe you? You traitor!" Kohaku screamed back.

"I hate him 'tis true. But I dont plan on dying today either. And certainly not by Naraku's hands too."

"So what do you suggest?" Kohaku maintained a defensive stance just in case the two-faced, self-serving scum changed his mind.

"The missus." The hanyou prince replied as if that solves all their problems.

"What about Rin?" And then it clicked. She could calm him down. Get his shit together.

.

Rin managed to free herself. She was staggering from the loss of blood but she didnt care. She had to get to him. She got back to her footing and fought her way through the fog of smoke, dust, and rumble.

"Sessho-"

She was about to call out to him when Naraku's demon summons smelled her blood and attacked her. She staggered back in her haste that she stumbled on a guard's corpse.

She won't make it!

She helplessly raised her arms in a poor attempt to shield herself. She waited for the pain to come. But it didn't.
