(chapter x)

As Hajime led a sleepy Yuna down the hall, he was seething with frustration. She had been dozing off on a bench outside, and he had come across her, finding her casual lack of concern infuriating. Despite his scolding, she seemed indifferent, her mind blank as his words seemed to just pass through her without a hint of reaction.
This wasn't the first time Hajime had experienced such a situation. Later that day, Tooru and he were once again left to finding Yuna, stumbling upon her as she was wandering off and even venturing as far as the field, where the track and soccer teams were currently training.
By the time lunch came, Hajime and Tooru were utterly exhausted and defeated. The pair sprawled out on the roof with Yuna sandwiched between them, unpacking their lunch. She was blissfully oblivious to the stress and trouble she had caused the males throughout the day, seemingly unaware of the chaos she had stirred up.
"Suga-chan," Tooru rolled onto his back and turned his gaze towards Yuna, pondering aloud, "Do you always find yourself in these situations?" She looked down at him, gently placing her lunch box on his forehead with a casual expression.
"It does happen, yes," Yuna confirmed, nonchalantly. "But I've never been hurt because people always stop what they're doing to help me" She spoke with a hint of indifference, completely unbothered by the predicament she had put the males through.
Hajime took the lunch box from Yuna as he sat up straight, his gaze fixed on her with a stern expression. "People shouldn't have to stop because of your carelessness," he reprimanded. "You need to pay more attention to your surroundings for not just your own sake, but for the sake of others too."
Yuna nodded in agreement, her expression solemn as she clasped her hands together. The males mirrored her gesture, saying their thanks, and then began eating their lunch. "I will try harder," she stated absently, her mind seeming detached from the weight of her words.
Yuna allowed Tooru's enthusiastic comments about his food to pass by her without notice, her mind elsewhere. Meanwhile, Hajime attempted to silence Tooru by attempting to kick him, but the latter skillfully dodged the attack, continuing to rave about his lunch, unfazed by Hajime's attempts to shut him up.
Tooru suddenly leaned forward, his curiosity piqued. He looked at Yuna intently, curiosity in his eyes, as he posed his question. "Suga-chan," he said, "Why did you want to see my tosses anyways? You never really explained that part."
Yuna responded, a hint of defensiveness in her tone. "I couldn't explain because you and Iwaizumi-kun were scolding me the whole walk to the train station..." She fidgeted nervously, but then her expression softened as she continued, "But a few days ago, I happened to stumble upon your practice session and heard something that sounded like the sound I've been looking for."
Tooru furrowed his brow in curiosity as he repeated her words, "Sound?"
Yuna responded by nodding and pointing to his hands.
"Put simply," she explained, "You had a graceful sound when you were practicing your tosses that day."Tooru's confusion was clear as he repeated Yuna's words back to her. "Graceful sound?" he echoed, scratching his head in puzzlement. Despite his talents on the court, he admittedly lacked knowledge in the realm of music.
Yuna lowered her lunch box, lifting her hands slightly as she attempted to explain. "The sound of the leather making contact with your hand," she began. "It's a subtle sound, but..." She closed her eyes and formed a fist as she struggled to find the right words to describe it. "It just...expressed the tune I may have been looking for," she continued, her eyes opening once more to meet Tooru's gaze. "But I was unable to hear it yesterday."
Tooru's brows pinched together as he asked, "Why?"
Yuna sighed and lowered her hands, answering, "You weren't in sync yesterday. Something about it was off... It's as if you had other things on your mind that day."
Hajime glanced at Tooru, noting the change in his demeanor upon hearing Yuna's words.
Hajime understood why Tooru was not at his best the day before. He had acted as a reluctant companion, practically dragging Tooru to the doctor's office after noticing the slight limp in his step.
The examination had revealed that Tooru suffered from Patellar Tendonitis, a result of excessively practicing, but thankfully not severe enough to stop him from playing. The doctor's warning about cutting down on his practice time echoed in their minds.
Tooru chuckled, trying to brush it off and waved his hand dismissively. "It was probably because my girlfriend has been distant lately," he explained.
Yuna accepted his words as the reason, replying, "Oh, I'll make sure to wait until things get better," She bowed her head apologetically, "I apologize for making you bring it up." With a bow, she turned back to quietly finish her lunch.
Tooru winced internally as the lie left his lips. The truth was, he didn't really care that his current girlfriend had been distant lately. In fact, he was almost relieved to have a break from her constant need for attention.
He did find it perplexing why the thought of Yuna being indifferent to his mention of his girlfriend bothered him so much. He couldn't quite understand why her indifferent response mattered to him, but it gnawed at him nonetheless.
