As Yuna and her club members readied themselves for their first performance of the festival, she found herself stealing occasional glances over her shoulder. Typically, she never felt nervous for concerts because she had the ability to immerse herself in her own world.
The situation had changed since she had become acquainted with Tooru and Hajime and allowed herself to express her emotions more openly. She now found herself more aware of her surroundings whenever she performed on stage.
Kurai's voice was sharp and stern as he addressed her by her last name, his words carrying a clear warning. "Don't mess this up, Sugawara," he said, sitting right next to her in the same chair, given that they were going to perform on the same piano. It had been made out to be an easy task when their club leader had first announced their joint performance, but in reality, the duo silently clashed heads during every practice, always striving to outperform each other.
The persistent clashes and disagreements between them were the primary reason why their club advisor had suggested that they find a way to set their differences aside. Consequently, the duo had been left with no choice but to collaborate on a single piano.
"I won't mess up, and I'm counting on you not to either, Okami," Yuna responded, pursing her lips as she added, "As much as I may not be a fan of having to work together with you, I refuse to let our differences overshadow our performance. I want everyone to see just how exceptional our club is."
"I am just as reluctant to admit this," Kurai muttered, his gaze shifting over his shoulder towards the packed house, which included not just students, but visitors as well. "But I, too, would like to demonstrate my abilities," he added, his determination clear in his voice.
As if unfazed by their ongoing rivalry, Yuna simply hummed in response before turning her attention forward. "Whatever floats your boat," she commented nonchalantly, her focus already shifting towards the task at hand.
Kurai cast a fleeting glance in her direction, and he silently cursed to himself as he took note of the calm expression on her face. There was a part of him that still bristled with annoyance at the fact that he wasn't the cause of her tranquility. A sense of prideful anger still simmered within him, further fueling his frustration.
He had promised himself a year ago to shatter the icy facade of the unfeeling princess, but no matter how many attempts he made, he found himself constantly hitting a wall. The repeated rejection had begun to fray his emotions, and he was finding himself increasingly unsettled by the predicament.
Kurai clenched his jaw and drew in a deep, shaky breath through his teeth, attempting to shake off the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions swirling within him. Despite his distaste for Yuna, he refused to compromise their collective efforts over the past few weeks by letting his personal feelings interfere with their performance.
The duo performed flawlessly together, their contrasting personalities creating a captivating and enthralling harmony. The sound they produced had a mesmerizing effect on the audience, completely enthralling them with a sense of awe.
At the end of their performance, the audience erupted into thunderous applause, standing to their feet in a standing ovation. Despite the constant bickering, Kurai and Yuna had managed to deliver a breathtaking performance that left everyone in the hall speechless.
The two musicians, though possessing disparate musical philosophies, were sides of the same coin when it came to their performances. Yuna was impassioned in her love for music—Kurai, on the other hand, felt a lack of passion. But when performing together, they shared the stage harmoniously.
As soon as their performance concluded, the duo was acutely aware of the captivating sound they had created, which led them to hastily distance themselves from each other. Yuna was already a considerable distance from the stage and had joined the boys, who were eagerly awaiting the outcome of their performance.
"Yu-chan~!" Tooru lunged forward and enveloped her in a tight embrace, nuzzling his face against her cheek. His strength proved overpowering as he hugged her tightly, disregarding her attempts to push him back, "I want to hear it again! Encore! Encore!" he pleaded, his voice filled with eager excitement.
Tooru wore an air of smugness and self-satisfaction following the weekend, as he had successfully located the magazine within just a day, surprising both Hajime and Yuna even further.
Tooru kept that secret to himself, refusing to admit that he couldn't tear his gaze away from the sight of Yuna modeling in those dresses. It was a captivating spectacle even for him.
Tooru had actually found the magazine on Saturday, but after an entire day spent captivated by it, he only revealed it to them early Sunday morning, while gleefully rubbing it in their faces. The bet they had made, however, took an unexpected turn, as Tooru cashed in on his early victory.
Tooru's desired prize was for Yuna to spend a full day with him the following weekend. This led to Hajime ultimately leaving the call midway, feeling like the third wheel throughout the entire interaction.
The bet had been settled, and Tooru was feeling quite pleased with himself as he envisioned the upcoming weekend spent together with Yuna.
To her surprise, Tooru's victorious prize had a specific stipulation attached to it—he insisted that Yuna wear one of the dresses during their day together.
Tooru spoke with a sly grin on his face, his excitement evident as he declared, "I can't wait for this week to be over, Yu-chan~."
Yuna grimaced at Tooru's overly enthusiastic voice and tried in vain to wriggle her way out of his tight grasp, but the others, including Hajime, watched her struggle in entertainment, not lifting a finger to come to her aid.
"Tooru~! Stop it," Yuna attempted to protest, still trying fruitlessly to free herself from his embrace, while the other boys nearby simply chuckled and offered no assistance, seemingly enjoying her predicament.
Despite her attempts to wriggle free, Tooru simply tightened his grasp tighter, showing no intention of letting her go. He continued to hold her captive, much to her annoyance and the amusement of the others.
It took a full half hour for Yuna to finally extricate herself from Tooru's firm hold, only to be met with warm congratulations from her fellow team members. Before she had a chance to catch her breath, she was then enveloped in a tight embrace by her doting parents.
"Koshi said he'll be able to make it on the last day," her mother clarified, continuing to indulge in the affectionate gesture of mothering her daughter, who made no attempt to resist. Normally, her parents weren't as openly affectionate due to their busy work schedules, making this a rare moment of familial closeness that Yuna relished.
During the occasional day when both parents were home simultaneously, their interactions typically involved inquiries about each other's well-being. However, the absence of public affection made these moments valuable to Yuna, as she found comfort in these rare displays of familial warmth.
At the same time, deep down, Koshi didn't mind the attention he received from his parents. Their mother understood this, attributing his initial resistance to a "defiant front" he put up, knowing that he secretly appreciated the affection.
