(chapter xxxiii)

Yuna yawned, stretching her arms above her head as she walked into the school. It was the first day of the week, which was the day most students dreaded the most—but Yuna was nowhere close to feeling the same way as everyone else.
Yuna walked through the school entrance, feeling completely different from the rest of the students. She had no dread or anxiety about the first day of the week—actually, she was rather excited for it.
As she strolled down the hallway, passing by other students who looked tired and grumpy, Yuna smiled secretively to herself, feeling a sense of anticipation for the day ahead.
The feeling of contentment that Yuna was experiencing wasn't going to last forever, as the school year was nearing its end and exams were fast approaching. However, the weekend—specifically the day she had spent with Tooru— was the reason she felt so satisfied.
Just as they had promised each other, Yuna and Tooru had spent the day just going with the flow and doing what they felt like doing in the moment.
Yuna was blissfully unaware of the permanent smile on her lips, which was the reason she was receiving so many stares from the people she passed. Everyone was shocked to see the "ice-cold princess" showing such a wide range of emotions.
In the building, another individual was also struggling to wipe the smile off of his face. Tooru stood alone in the hallway, his eyes darting to both ends as he anxiously waited for Yuna to arrive.
As soon as the sight of silvery hair appeared in his peripheral vision, Tooru's head shot up, and he began walking at a fast pace towards the petite figure of Yuna. She didn't even have a moment to react before his tall figure was in front of her, blocking her vision.
Yuna pursed her lips, craning her head back to look at Tooru, and nearly snickered at the cheeky grin on his face. "Good morning," she said with a hint of amusement.
"Morning, Yu-chan," he replied before stepping aside and gesturing for her to follow him, ensuring that they were not blocking the hallway for the others. "I would ask how your weekend was, but I think formalities are unnecessary," Tooru continued with a cheeky smile.
Yuna leaned her back against the wall and said, "It was a fun weekend, but I spent it with someone who tried to bring me on a cliché date." She spoke sarcastically, her mischievous grin widening.
Tooru's face turned a deep shade of red as he averted his gaze, pretending to act surprised. "Huh," he replied, "that is...unfortunate..." He then added, "Well, I had a splendid weekend because my date ended up fainting, and I got to witness her adorable side afterwards."
"R-really..." Yuna paused and coughed, attempting to conceal her embarrassment. "How did the date end up going?", she asked.
Tooru smiled and nodded, crossing his arms over his chest as he closed his eyes. "It was amazing," he replied, "but I think the best part was when we both ended up laughing so hard that we actually cried, and got kicked out of the restaurant."
"Now, that was all your fault!" Yuna huffed, "I was looking forward to trying their new dessert!"
Tooru shook his head, brushing aside her outburst, and replied, "It was not intentional. I saw the opportunity to make you laugh and I took it."
"Right," replied Yuna, "sure—next time, you better not think about ruining it for us."
Tooru smirked at her response to his question, "Next time?" He had expected her to blush and look away—but to his surprise, Yuna smiled.
"I would hope so," she said, "it was a fun day, To-kun."
Tooru turned his body away to hide his flushed face, and his eyes darted this way and that as he attempted to comprehend her words.
He couldn't deny how her smile just glistened and was causing his heart to race. He was no longer in denial of his growing feelings, but the rate at which they were increasing was placing him in a constant state of bewilderment.
As Tooru wrestled with his inner turmoil, Yuna just looked at him and tilted her head, completely oblivious to his inner thoughts.
"I almost wanted to kiss her," Tooru thought to himself as he brought his hands to his hair, gripping it tightly. He nearly jumped out of his skin when Yuna walked over and stood right in front of him.
Tooru hastily saluted, saying, "I-I forgot I had a meeting with the coaches! Talk to you soon, Yu-chan," before taking a few steps back and walking away at a swift pace.
"Was Yuna always this cute?!" he argued to himself as he felt guilty for lying and avoiding her like the plague.
Yuna furrowed her brows at his fleeing figure, but her mind was still trying to make sense of his previously strange behavior.
Yuna muttered to herself, "That was weird," before biting her lips. She assumed that Tooru would fill her in later on why he was acting so strangely.
