y/n sprinted down the hallway, all the way to the girls bathroom where she could hide out. she tore up the letter into small shreds, discarding them into the trash can next to her. tears sprung from her eyes as they rolled down her cheeks. her hands trembled, trying to stop crying but failing.

y/n picked up her backpack, slinging it over her shoulder as she coughed up flowers, slowly walking out of the bathroom with her head down. not caring if she made a mess, she discarded the petals onto the ground, leaving a little trail as she walked down the stairs and outside, about to head home.

she passed by the volleyball gym, sniffling and coughing. oikawa had heard this as he was getting water for a quick break from practice. his eyes widened, having a quick glance at who had passed by. asking the coach before he left, he rushed out of the gym with all his stuff.

"y/n!" he called out running to catch up to her. she didn't turn her head, or have any reaction. oikawa had finally caught up to her and hugged her from behind, stopping her from being able to keep walking.

"what happened?" oikawa asked, turning y/n's body to face him. she stayed silent, but just looked up at him, eyes watering while a few stray tears ran down her face. her facial expression explained it all. he remembered that y/n was going to give the letter to him. oikawa pulled her into a proper hug.

deep down, he was thankful that y/n had successfully managed to get the letter to aito, even though it hurt her. a faint smile grew on oikawa's face as he tightened his grip around y/n. they stood there hugging for a while until oikawa finally pulled away. y/n sniffled, wiping her face dry.

"do you want me to walk you home?" oikawa asked, his facial expressions softening as he rested his hand on y/n's shoulder. she didn't say a word but shook her head as she clung onto oikawa's shirt.

"okay, let's go to my house then." oikawa said, turning to the gates of their school and walking out. the walk there was completely silent, a few sniffles but that was it. it was a comfortable silence. oikawa decided not to ask too much about it, y/n would tell him when she wanted to.

they stepped to the front of his house as they both walked in. y/n slumped onto oikawa's bed in his room while oikawa went to go change into a new pair of clothes in the bathroom. when he came back he found y/n laying on her back, staring at the ceiling.

"i don't care about him." she mumbled. oikawa didn't know what to say, or what she meant by that.

"hm?"

"i don't care that he has a girlfriend. i don't want to die. i was crying about that." y/n said in a clearer tone, turning on her side to face oikawa. all he did was nod, because he knew that there was almost no way that she could avoid death.

"c'mon, let's go get milk bread." oikawa said, trying to change the subject and to distract the poor girl that was currently laying on his bed. y/n nodded then stood up, both of them walking towards the door.

they walked to the usual bakery they went to. purchasing the milk bread, the two of them headed to the park they always went to. oikawa and y/n sat down at a bench together, opening the wrapping around the milk bread. before oikawa had some, he ripped a small piece off, handing it to y/n.

instead of denying it, she had popped it in her mouth, causing oikawa to start smiling. the two of them ate together, then started chatting about other things.

"sorry i made you miss out on practice." y/n apologized, looking at the time on her phone.

"it's fine, you don't have to apologize." oikawa said, dismissing her apology. time passed by quickly as they finished up their milk bread, walking around the park, walking to the beach they went to that one night.

as night fell, they returned to the park they were at, laid in the grass and stared up at the stars. y/n was resting her head on his chest while oikawa had his arm wrapped around her.

"oikawa?" y/n said to get the boy's attention.

"hm?"

"we won't die, right?" y/n asked, closing her eyes.

"no, we won't." oikawa answered while caressing her hair. a hint of hope was in his voice, truly believing that they would both get through this, well and alive.

"pinky promise?" y/n held out her pinky finger. after a few seconds, she felt oikawa's pinky wrap around hers.

"pinky promise."
