We went back inside, without saying a single word. I finally broke the silence by asking: "You could fly?"
She smiled sympathetically and said: "Yes, honey. I could."
"How?"
She paused before saying: "I was born with the power to fly. I tried hiding it from you for all these years but i had to tell you someday, and i felt this was the right timing. What about you?"
I took a moment to process her words. What was i going to say? I can't tell her i tried to commit suicide! She would freak out! Suddenly, i got an idea.
"I was rock climbing, like at a place where you can, like, um, rock climb," i started. "Then, i fell off, and my harness came loose, and i fell, and kept on falling, then i got, like, lifted up. It was so cool."
...ok, so that maybe wasn't the best excuse, or the most unique one i could have come up with.
I could tell she believed me by the look in her eyes though.
"That's interesting. Anyways, have you heard of that school from the other side of town?"
I thought about what she just asked me. Then it came into my mind. "Oh yeah. Bayview, isn't it? I haven't actually seem it, but i've heard rumours about it."
Her eyebrows narrowed down. "Like what?"
"Well, i heard that people with superpowers go there. Crazy, right?" i laughed. I stopped when i noticed she had a blank look on her face. Wait- i could fly. Isn't that considered a superpower?
As if she could see right through me, she quickly replied: "Not completely. You see, flying is considered a superpower, as you may have been wondering. The rumours are true. That is a school for people completely with superpowers."
My mind filled up with a lot of questions, and my face lit up. Did that mean that instead of doing science and social studies, i could learn how to train my powers? Instead of learning math equations, i could be 10 feet off the ground? I had so many more floating around in my head, so many more that i didn't know what to say.
My mom smiled at the sight of me smiling. "Would you like me to-"
"Yes!" I interrupted. She started to frown at the fact that i interrupted her, but went back into a fully grown smile when she noticed that she was making me happy.I knew what she was going to say. She was going to ask if i wanted her to enroll me. And my answer was obvious!
"Ok, i'm going to stop by the school right now and speak to the principal about you joining the school."
I smiled. My mom was awesome!
She put on her jacket and said: "Ok, i'm leaving. I'll be back in about fifteen minutes! Be safe, sweetie!"
"I will, mom! Bye!"
She grinned, going out of the door. I was so excited! I jumped up and down on the couch, then i ran across the house screaming and destroying nearly everything. I didn't care. I GOT TO TRANSFER SCHOOLS!
I flew across the house, making sure not to hit the chandelier with my head, or to crush the ceiling. I was up in the air, having fun!
I got bored and sat around, just waiting for her to come home.
Finally, i heard the sound of keys opening the door. I suddenly grinned. My mom came in through the door. She had a disappointed look on her face.
"What is it?" i asked. I wasn't sure what was wrong.
"Tess, you know they- they only accept certain people. People who they think seem special. I told them all about you and-" She paused. I got scared. Did i not get into the school?
"THEY THINK YOU WOULD BE A PERFECT ADDITION TO THE SCHOOL!!"
My face lit up. I jumped up and down and hugged her tightly. My grasp was quite strong, i thought i was suffocating her.I finally let go, and screamed: "YAY!"
I absolutely couldn't wait. Plus, school was tomorrow. I bit my lip, and checked the time. I sighed. It was only 4:00 PM. There was still some time left.
The rest of the day, i flew with my mom, or in my backyard alone, and i chilled out and did some other cool stuff.
It was finally time for me to go to sleep. I went to bed thinking about all of the amazing things that i would do tomorrow. Little did i know that things weren't as i imagined them to be.
