Part 10:

“Your...” Taylor cleared his throat, “Your mother?”

Illy sighed. “Yes my mother.”

Baylie looked from Taylor to Illy and quickly realized that her presence was not helping at this time.

“I am,” she inhaled deeply. “I am going out with my sister. I agreed on lunch or something.” She pulled away from Taylor’s loose embrace and went to retrieve her phone from the kitchen counter. Quickly pulling her coat and purse from the table. “I’ll see you later.” She gave Taylor a quick peck on the lips before finally walking out through the garage door.

Taylor followed Baylie with his eyes as his throat grew dry.

Illy was quickly typing away on her phone.

“Are you,” he swallowed the saliva that had built up in his mouth. “Are you texting her right now?”

She nodded and put the phone away.

“Does she know you’re here?”

Illy shook her head. Quickly finding a seat at the table.

“Look Taylor.” She inhaled deeply. “I came here without anyone knowing.”

“How is that even possible you are only a teenager?” Taylor found a seat right in front of Illy.

“It is very possible when you make up a complete lie to get your way.”

Taylor furrowed his eyebrows. “What do you mean?”

She exhaled. “Look, my whole life I was told that my dad was out there. When I was young my mother made up about a billion and one excuses for you not being there. But I grew up and I was no longer falling for her lies. I sat her down once and asked about you and she confessed everything about you. Told me your name, told me your love story, or lack there off. She showed me pictures and I became fixated on finding you.” She smiled. “Gosh you have no idea how long I have been wanting to call you dad. How long I have been wanting to see you face to face.” She bit on her bottom lip in attempt to calm her nerves. “It was always mom and I. Just the two of us. And then, around the time I turned 13 she was promoted. And about three to six months out of the year she has to go to Paris to shop. And that is when I decided that it was time for me to started saving up to find you. I researched your name about many ways until I came to you. The right Taylor York. The one that could be my father and I knew I had to seize the opportunity. So I told my grandmother that my school was going on a school trip and she let me go. Except, my school wasn’t going on a trip. Only I was. And my mission was to meet you.”

Taylor smiled. “So your mother did make it Paris after all?”

Illy smiled. “She made it to Paris.”

Taylor’s heart fluttered at the memory of the night when they sat on the roof top. That same night Hayley was sober. The same night Taylor felt her lips for the first time ever.

*Phone ringing*

“Oh that’s her.” Iliana quickly answered the phone as Taylor’s heart raced, palms became sweaty, and legs began shaky.

“Hey mom.” Iliana spoke and looked up to meet Taylor.

“What is this I am hearing about you being in Nashville?” Hayley spoke through the phone with a hint of disappointment.

“I am.” Illy sunk back into her chair. “I found him mom.”

“Found who?” Hayley dismissed her assistant from her office.

“Taylor. Taylor York.” She sighed. “My father.”

“What—what?” Hayley fell back onto her desk. She placed her hand over her stomach.

“I did mama.” She looked up and met Taylor’s eyes. “In fact,” she smiled “he is sitting right in front of me.”

“Is he?” Hayley felt tears start to burn her eyes.

“Yes.” She grinned. “You want to talk to him?”

Hayley felt her heart just sky rocket out of her chest. “I um,” she looked upwards. “I guess so.”

Illy quickly took the phone from her ear and held it forward.

“She wants to talk to you.”

“Me?” Taylor pointed at himself in disbelief.

Illy nodded eagerly.

“Hello?” He spoke slowly into the microphone of the mobile device.

“Hey tee.” Hayley said as a warm smile appeared on her face.
