"How is she?" Luan asked, his form relaxed as he leaned against the doorframe. His gaze shifted between Zenon and the woman who was lying beneath the embrace of a pure, pristine white blanket. His eyes, however, found a resting place on her, fixated on some strands of her wavy black hair that veiled her left cheek.
"She will recover, soon Supremo." Zenon replied, casting a reassuring glance towards his superior as he rose to his feet, offering a formal salute.
"What is your connection to her?" Luan pressed with his arms crossed, and for a fleeting moment, Zenon's smile faltered but just as swiftly, he donned that smile on his lips once more.
"Lia is my dearest friend, Supremo." Zenon replied with sincerity as his eyes glanced at Lia. "She is also a trainee within our legion." He added. Luan remained silent, without uttering a word as an unbroken silence enveloped them. His eyes were fixed on Lia, a laser-like focus, as if he were weaving every nuance and intricacy of her features into the canvas of his mind.
On the other hand, the searing pain had become an unending torment to Lia, the etching lines of difficulty across her face, causing her to wince as if every moment were an eternity of suffering. She struggled to open her eyes, squinting against the harsh sunlight that flooded her face. However, a faint and nearly invisible footstep broke through her awareness, making her realize someone was nearby, though she couldn't see them.
As her eyes adjusted to the light, it fell upon him, the Supremo and his face bore a stern expression. Her brow furrowed in response, uncertain of his thoughts. Shifting her attention away from his intense stare, she noticed Zenon approaching the window and drawing back the curtain on the other side, allowing a stream of daylight to filter into the room.
"Lia!" Zenon's head snapped towards Lia as he drew back the curtain on the side. "You're awake!" he exclaimed and his face lit up with a broad smile. In response, Lia offered him a warm smile all while hearing Luan's irritated hiss as he exited the room without any words. Her focus then shifted towards the room's confining beige walls as she made an attempt to sit up but Zenon gripped her arms to provide assistance. Nevertheless, a burning agony coursed through her body, threatening to overwhelm her as though the mere act of sitting up might plunge her back into frailty. She paused, wincing at the pain vibrating on her body yet continued to push herself up.
As she shifted her gaze towards the window, the faint sounds of a soldier heralding the Rajah's arrival reached her ears. Her eyes widened as she observed the high - ranking officials forming two lines on either side, creating a corridor-like pathway.
"The Heneral will visit you after their meeting." Zenon remarked as he poured water from the pitcher into a glass. Lia watched the Rajah walk, dressed in a plain white shirt and trousers while his retinue of officers trailed behind him as they made their way towards the door. Only the howling wind shattered the silence, tension lingering in the air.
Then, the Rajah suddenly paused. His gaze sweeping across his surroundings until it locked onto Lia's eyes. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized that he was looking directly at her, a cold chill coursing down her spine.
"Lia, are you listening?"Zenon asked, rising to his feet and following Lia's gaze. But his eyes widened upon seeing the Rajah's gaze directed towards Lia, and Zenon instinctively moved to block her view outside.
"Lia." Margosha's voice rang out, standing in the doorway with a tray of food balanced in her hands. In that moment, Zenon leaned heavily against the wall, his arms crossed and his brows knitted together as he locked eyes with Margosha. But she widened her eyes, signaling to him with a questioning expression, but he simply shrugged his shoulders in response and still, his expression was a mix of concern and anger that had flashed in his eyes.
