"Head up, dear." Mary said to her daughter as they journeyed to the Scrubb's household. "We mustn't dampen the evening."

"Yes, Mother." Diana said, taking in a long and needed deep breathe in before wearing a small grin.

Her mother was right. There was no need to dwell on extremely recent events when they were meeting with the family that was supporting them through their hardships.

"Now I'll warn you," Mary took a breathe. "The Scrubb's can be... difficult to be around."

"How so?" Diana raised a brow.

"Well, Alberta can often be overbearingly enthusiastic when it comes to having guests over... although she isn't too fond of her own niece and nephew staying with her which, I'll admit is rather strange."

"It is. Wouldn't she be thrilled to have them over?"

"She can be easily swayed, you see. Especially when it comes to her son. I suspect he has given his cousins a hard time and in turn, Alberta has too." Mary explained.

"What about her husband?"

"Harold? Well, he's much like a wall. Quite bland if I recall, doesn't speak much and would rather read the paper or listen to the radio than engage in conversation."

"My, my."

"But regardless, we must be respectful and grateful for their help."

"Of course." Diana nodded.

As the pair walked to short distance from their new home tp the Scrubb household, Diana had an immense amount of trouble erasing the memory of the events that had taken place a few short days ago from her mind. It ran through her head over and over, stuck in an endless loop of despair. She had attempted to always converse with her mother to distract herself from the memories repeating, however could not think of a single topic to discuss as the memory pushed further and further forward into Diana's stream of consciousness.

"Mother," Diana said with worry as she sat beside her tear-stain cheeked mother. "Mother, what's the matter? What's happened?"

Mary stiffed, straightening her back. "It's your father, dear."

Fear struck Diana in the chest. "Father? Is he okay? Is he hurt, or sick? Oh Mother I-"

"Diana," Mary stopped her daughters rambling, turning her body to face her completely as she took her hands in hers. "We're leaving him."

"We... what?"

"He's... He's found someone else." Mary croaked out.

"He... You mean he..." Diana's breathe hitched in her throat as the realisation of the situation hit her. "Oh, Mother,"
