Science lessons. It's been a week since we got the assignment and I can't get enough of it. I've already come up with the name,motto,price,rocket model,itinerary and accommodation. Jessica, however states that she is doing the most important job yet. Being eye candy for Mr Evans to give us an 'a*'. Typical. Anyway, I don't really care what the populars or 'the plastics' as we say in my school, do. I'm too bothered having fun with Sarah. It's hard to believe that a week ago I had dark thoughts and was on the verge of doing something radical but then Sarah came and saved me in the nick of time. I wonder why she even would want to be friends with a loser like me? Maybe she likes glee? Anyways, I've got more on my plate than bullying or friend trouble. Geography. I don't know, I think some people are just born to be rubbish at geography, which isn't good when your parents expect you to get an 'A*' in it. I opened my geography book, only to gasp in horror at the title. 'Do you think the Amazon Rainforest should be in the hands of the Brazilian Government?'
Ugh! Personally, I don't really care as long as they take care of it. Barclays can be in charge of it for all I care. I was thinking about how archaeologists believe that the River Congo and the Amazonian Rainforest were the same river and how to apply the only interesting knowledge I know about the Amazon in my geography essay, when Sarah came in and sat down next to me.
'Sup Meesh. H.R.U?'
'Ok first of all, never call me Meesh. Secondly H.R.U? What are you a text message?'
'Soz mate. It's just I thought I might enlighten you on modern day talk.'
'The only thing you can enlighten me is on this stupid geography project'
'Oh you mean the one on the Amazon rainforest. Well have you considered the location of the rainforest, the economy of Brazil compared to other countries in South America or even the social and economic impact that the Amazon rainforest have on Brazil?'
My jaw dropped.
'Fviyvigvyiyfdfk' I blurburd trying to come to terms with what Si just said.
'Wait- are you a geography teacher in disguise. Is that why your friends with me?' I asked filled with curiosity.
'Nooo!' She said bluntly
'My secret weapon. My cousin Sandrine. Lives in São Paulo. South of Brazil. Give her 20 quid and she tells you everything. I think it's worth a lot more there.'
'Lucky!' I sighed
I wish that I had cousins all over the world. Just recently, we had a tourism project about Ibiza and Ana surprise, surprise got an 'A*'. What do I have? A couple of aunts and uncles in Birmingham.
'So apart from science and geography, what else do you have due?' Si said distracting me from my thoughts.
'Well, we have an RS project, Should a gay person come out? Boy do I the answer to that! Well, it could be a good thing, I mean it showed me who my real friends are.' I said looking up to Si
'Hmm.... I mean maybe some things are better off private.' Si said with a concealed face
'What do you mean?' I replied nervously
'Well if someone is gay, then it's none of anyone's business. Just saying,geez! Can't we talk about something else?' Si said sharply
'Well, in my opinion if someone is going to stay in the closet because of what people think, they're cowards' I replied calmly
'Don't you DARE call me a coward!!' Si shouted as her eyes filled with tears.
'It wasn't - wait what? You? Are you- are you?'
'Shut up!' Si screamed and stomped out of the library
I knew it. At that moment, I knew it. Why we were so close. Why I could see myself in her. Si was Gay.
