I was currently swimming for my life trying to get away from my father's henchmen but they were still on my tail. I was moving left and right but nothing seemed to shake them off.
"You come back here, crown prince Shouto!" I kept swimming away and yelled.
"You're servants no more to a Manatee!"
(Other name: Sea Cow) I saw bubbles coming out of his ears, seeing how angry he was.
"Oh no you've done it! Come back here so you can be like your bed written brother Touya!" I just laughed. He can't catch up anyway, the tide is on my side today. Looks like Ryūjin is using his jewels in my favor. (Ryūjin is the Japanese Sea God who is a dragon and has the two jewels to control the tides) I felt a bit cocky swimming a little bit slower because the tides were with me. I guess that wasn't the right choice because the tides have changed and currents became harsh. Ryūjin, you really had me hoping there, but I guess you can only count on yourself if you want things to happen, so I hatched a plan.
I was swimming inside the current and those sea slugs where dumb enough to follow me. I was swimming top speed and so were they. I was keep swimming, and swimming, and swimming until I reached the bend in the current where I used all my might and shot the other way.
I broke out of the currents and lucky for them that current is leading to the Tokushima Naruto Whirlpools, I hope they have fun there.
I sigh in relief as I kept on swimming. To think about it, it's only been about 60 high tides with the moon overview. (like two months) I was thinking of my time in the palace and how miserable I was. I was thinking for so long I didn't notice how I was swimming towards a chunk of land until I felt a huge shadow cast over me. It passes over me and I realize it's a ship. In the palace I was never allowed to be even in a 50 meter radius of a ship.
Though, I'm not in the palace. I mean they can't be as barbaric as the mer-people in the Australia Provenience, like I mean, they don't even have speacial powers, and barely know how to swim.
I went over to the ship and I saw the figurehead of the ship it was a weird being, perhaps a deity. I swam closer and I saw a ledge that I can sit on with out being noticed.
I went on the ledge and I saw this human, it was... strange yet beautiful. It had skin as white as sand. It's freckles looking like the rocks in that sand. It had green unruly hair like Kaisō (seaweed) but I find that... cute. I was enamoured by this human but when it smiled, I had already fell head over tail. At that moment, I decided to meet this human. I didn't care if it was forbidden, I'm already an outlaw so I might as well raise hell. Not to mention, from the stories I've read in the royal documents, humans fear and idolize us mer-people as deities or Gods. So I'll to be very careful when I approach him not to scare it.
The ship went to port and I saw these buff people carry cargo. Interesting, the stories I've heard about humans is that they're scrawny and scary creatures who can easily die by the waves, strange indeed.
The humans looked back and popped my head back underwater so they couldn't see me. I noticed the guys leaving. Oh no! Did I miss my chance?
I pop my head out of the water to see the pretty human walking on the edge of the shore. I decided to follow him and from up close it looked so excited and beautiful with some weird item which looked like a bundle of small thin tablets bound in some weird casing, and a weird spear-shaped stylus.
I felt content just watching this human as it turned on some sort of lighting device and inscribing stuff in that thing. I was watching the human for so long I hadn't noticed low tide was approaching and I accidentally fell off and made a big splash. Dammit! I was trying to calm myself, I'm pretty sure it can't see me because humans don't have as good as vision as us mer-folk. He put on a circular glass on it's face and asked,
"Hello, is anyone there? If you're not an animal, get out of the water. It's more dangerous at night." Did he call me an animal? He went closer to shore looking for something, I spoke up.
"I am no animal, but I don't know about you though. Humans, in my opinion are strange. But you, are interesting to me." He grabbed that lighting device and walked in the shallows.
"Who are you?" I went back up on top of the rock revealing my tail to him and he screamed. Oh no! Did I scare it? Does my appearance look ugly, Does my scar scare it?
"What's the matter human, are you threatened? Don't worry I won't-" The human shrieked again but this time it sounded more... happy?
"Oh my Quirk! I've never seen a mermaid in real life before! Like, Oh my Quirk! Can you see in the dark? Can you turn your tail into legs, Is Atlantis real? Is there others like you, Is it true that mermaids sing well? Do you guys have established civilizations down there? Where do you live? Can you-" I cut him off.
"Human, you talk to much." It blushed and scratched the back of its neck.
"I'm sorry, my captain says I blabber a lot too. Hehe... Wait! You understand Japanese?" I looked up at the stars, thinking I became smitten for the wrong human.
"We mer-people speak all languages, including dead ones like Latin." His eyes brightened.
"Wow, that's so cool! I have to put that in my notes." I find him an interesting character at that. I guess I'll stick around, he amusing me, and I feel compelled to stay.
"Get up on this rock with me." He looked confused.
   "What?"
"If you don't understand me then I will accommodate to your preferred language." He stared flailing his hands.
It's not that!" It yelled, "It's just I heard stories from other sailors that mermaids lure people and drown them, or enslave them! And I'm already indentured to Kacchan since childhood. Or worse! Eat my flesh and try to get my shiriodama!" (Basically a magical jewel up your ass that Kappa like to take, I'm not shitting you, look it up)
"Shirio-dama?" (To Todoroki, Merfolk slang which means to take one's virginity or to have sex. I pulled that idea out of my ass) I was trying to hide a blush, he surely doesn't mean that! Humans are weird, I mean, it sounds completely ridiculous.
"Where did you hear that type of stuff from?" I asked. It blushed and twiddled it's fingers.
"I read from manuscripts of your subspecies, and you're so different. Different from what I imagined." I joshed around a bit,
"Clearly I'm not that bad, I mean I don't wanna eat your flesh, and I don't want your shiriodama. Not yet atleast." It tensed up.
"I was just joking you know." It jumped up on the rock I was sitting on and he asked quickly.
"Can I examine you?!?" I was took back.
"Am I... unwell?" I ask. The human did a nervous chuckle.
"Oh, where are my manners, let me introduce myself. I am Izuku Midoriya, Herbalist, Researcher, and Marine Biologist." He extended his arm out.
"Shouto Todoroki, local outlaw and get's on the King's ass all the time." He backed away.
"Like I said, you amuse me. I won't hurt you."
The human nervously laughed.
"Um... can I examine you now?" I nodded my head and Midoriya seemed to understand and grabbed my arm and looked in astonishment.
"Wow, you really look like nothing I imagined." I laughed.
"Well what do think I was supposed to look like.?" Midoriya looked up.
"Well Ningyo are supposed to be really ugly and have a head of a monkey and a body of fish." I became confused and it suddenly started flailing its arms again.
"Not that I find you ugly or anything, if anything you're handsome even-" he clamped his hands over it's mouth.
"Are humans usually this nervous?" Midoriya smiled and rubbed the back of its head.
"Not really, hehe..." The human started to feel my skin and then brushed against my Gills. I spiraled into a coughing fit and it started to freak out.
"Oh my Quirk, I am so sorry! Did I do something wrong?" My coughing seemed to calm down a bit.
"My gills are sensitive, especially when exposed in air! It's like the equivalent of you humans dangling other humans in our waters by their neck. God, as a Marine Biologist you should know at least know that marine life is more prone to injury in the shallows!" It looked really dejected, and I almost, maybe a little bit, felt bad for it.
"I'm sorry," it sniffled, "I really didn't know. I know sometimes I can be incompetent, and Kacchan likes to point that out as well. If I have upset you then I'll take my leave." I really messed up.
"Wait!" I grabbed it's arm and Midoriya looked at me with eyes more shining than the peridotite under the sea. I was trying not to blush.
"We can stick to questions for now." Midoriya lit up and my heart throbbed.
"Really, can I?" I nodded, my heart doing flips in my chest. Ryūjin, this human is really something huh?
"You can, but only three a day. So choose wisely, and this will only last until the day which the tides are the lowest of the year. (The Winter Solstice) The human thought for it awhile.
"The day of the lowest tide, the winter solstice... three months away." He kept mumbling until he excitedly yelled out,
"That sure isn't a lot of  time, but you got it, it's a deal!" I'm amazed. I never heard of a human thinking or questioning the words of a mermaid. Then he asked,
"Though, where are we gonna meet, and when? I have duties in the morning, and a master to report to." I wonder, are humans nocturnal or diurnal? Then I decided.
"We'll meet at sunset, in this same spot, on the edge of the cape." He looked up at the stars.
"That seems perfect." I find this human interesting, I see no harm in learning about this human and it's culture. I leaned closer to Midoriya and whispered in it's ear, just to tease it.
"As you learn more about me, I want to learn more about you and what you think of my kind. I promise to answer honestly." It blushed and I chuckled. Then it got really excited and proposed,
"Let's make it into a game, like 30 questions!" I was confused,
"30 questions?" I thought he wanted 90 questions overall the time we'll spend together.
"I thought you were pleased with our agreement." I say. It laughed and explained.
"No, 30 questions is a human game and it's basically a exchange of questions with the people you're playing with and you answer them." I was still confused.
"Like a survey then?" Midoriya shook it's head.
"No, it's basically an icebreaker to know the person better and make it seem fun."
"Are all human games this games this boring?" I ask.
"Wow, harsh! If you think human games are boring then what do you play down under?" It joked.
"You technically asked me a question but since I'm feeling nice today, I'll let it slide... just for once." He hit his head.
"I can't believe I almost wasted a question!" He scolded himself.
"Anyways, there was tons of fun games I used to play as a kid before certain circumstances," I cleared my throat and it looked confused,
"For instance, kids would make a puffer fish inflate itself and play with it, toss it, spike, balance it, or whatever. There's also Manatee scaring. They're usually golly creatures and super slow. Though, when scared or provoked, they speed quadruples in short spurts, so in that time you must catch it and if not you loose. "
"That sounds similar to cow tipping!" He exclaimed.
"Cow?" I ask confused.
"Never mind." He chuckled. I felt as if compelled to learn about this human, Izuku Midoriya. But I don't even know it's sex! I decided to ask.
"Since you asked me a question, I feel like it's appropriate to ask you one."
"Ask away."
"I'm sorry if this seems rude but, what are you?"
"What?" His eyes widened in confusion, as if taken back.
"What are you?" I repeated.
"Umm a human like you said?" He was still confused.
"I already know that, I mean your sex."
"Huh?" It cocked it's head to the side.
"I've been staring at your legs all this time and I still haven't figured it out. Usually you can tell if a mermaid is going to be a boy or a girl by the shape of the tail, and even though you're human, there must be some indicator somewhere. And I feel uncomfortable calling you it all the time." I kept looking at it and it covered its , what I believe pelvis with it's hands. Odd.
"I'm a man!" He yelled out embarrassed. Interesting...
"Can I see your indicator, you can see mine."  I got into the water splashing him on 'accident' revealing my tail in all its glory but for some odd he covered his eyes.
"You can look, it's not like it's mating season." He uncovered his eyes and he looked amazed at my tail lighting up the water.
"Woah... your tail is beautiful!" He extended his hand out.
"It's okay. You can touch my tail." He touched it and I felt kind of happy that he touched my tail, because gossip used to swim around about me being a mixed breed.
"It's simply just gorgeous." As he touched my pelvic fin. I gasp at his sudden action. He immediately pulled his hand away.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you! Are you okay!?!" I blushed, dorsal, pelvic, and adipose fins are sensitive to mer-folk but I'll just stress him out if I tell him that.
"I'm fine, it was nothing."
"Oh," he continued to touch my tail, being mindful of my fins. He looked so amazed with my tail and I never seen anyone look at it like this before. I swam closer to him.
"You know tails aren't here just for aesthetics and swimming."
Huh?" His confused face was adorable. I cleared my throat.
"They indicate so much more." He got real close to me leaning on the edge in excitement.
"Really!?!"
"Yeah..." I blushed, and he kept looking at me with those big green curious eyes.
"Yeah, they indicate not only your sex, but what clan you're from as well. There are also different tail shapes depending where you're from." He brightens up.
"That's so cool! When I get to the shore I'll have write all this down." I smiled at him and just admiring how beautiful he is.
It was a comfortable silence, with the water gently pushing and pulling. Then a big wave came and soaked Izuku and I started laugh.
"Hey that's not funny, I'm soaking wet!" He complained.
"Oh come on, the water never hurt anybody. You just can't handle the waves." I joked.
He smirked.
"Is that so," he kicked his foot in the water causing a small wave that hit me. Two can play it that game. I flicked my tail, hitting it back in the water causing it splash him some more.
"You really wanna play?" I smirked.
"I dunno, do you really wanna play water games with a merman?"
"I'll take my chances." He jumped off the rock and disappeared. It was a while and he didn't pop back up.
"Izuku? Izu where are you?" Humans don't glow so I can't see where he is. I got more worried.
"Izu!" I felt something brush past my tail. I turned over only to get splashed in the face by this little trickster as he giggled. I smiled knowing that he was okay.
"I was worried about you, you know."  He smiled at me and faked cooed.
"Oh, were you worried about me?" I swam slow circles around him.
"It's just that humans are weak swimmers, it was only natural to get worried about a flounder like you." He splashed me again and pouted.
"For your information I'm an excellent swimmer." He huff and I splashed him.
   "Whatever you say flounder."
"Why you," he splashed me again and it turned into a game of Orca vs Shark, with us splashing and evading each other until we ended up play fighting, us locking hands, trying to push the other away.
"I won't loose to you!" He said determined.
"I just want you to know that I haven't been trying at all." I let go of him and he dropped back into the water and I laughed. He sprang back up and squirted water that was in his mouth and we laughed.
We just swam there and the waves brought me closer to him. His arms instinctively wrapped around me and we looked at each other. We inched closer and closer until our faces were centimeters apart. I closed my eyes and I was about to meet his pink lips. Then, out of no where he freaked out on me and leaned back.
"I'm sorry! I don't know what I was doing and- stupid, stupid Izu! You made a fool of yourself! I-"He let go of me and accidentally sunk underwater. I grabbed his hand and when he went back to surface he nervously chuckled.
"I'll see you next sunset!" He yelled back at me.
"Wait!" I swam up to him and kissed him on the cheek.
"See you later." He blushed and swam back to shore and I swam back to my hide out and I have a good feeling about this human. I don't know why, but I'm hoping that these three months never end.
