If you're not familiar, here are some terms that I used so I won't confuse you, my dear readers.

- PGI-stands for a post-graduate intern. They already hold a degree of Doctor in Medicine but are not yet licensed.

- Medical clerk-they are 4th-year medicine students.

- Code- is a term used for cardiopulmonary arrest, those patients with no pulse and no breathing.

- Triage- is the process of determining the priority of patients' treatments by categorizing them according to their severity- non-urgent, urgent, or life-threatening.

-Appendectomy- a surgery for removal of the appendix

Gab's POV

I think the air conditioner in the Emergency Room is broken. Ever since I came for my shift at 6 AM, my nape was continually damp, the tendrils of my hair clinging to it. I felt sticky and icky, and I badly wanted to go home and take a shower.

I began to imagine cool water being poured down my back. I shuddered. This was such a bad idea. Thinking about my shower is generally a bad idea. Thinking about cool ice chips being poured into my mouth is even worse. It made me thirstier. It made my yearning for water stronger.

I groaned. A bead of sweat dropped from my temples and landed on my upper lip. I could taste the saltiness of it. The urge to bathe was getting stronger and stronger. It took sheer willpower for me not to drop everything and walk out of that warm ER.

If only I could do that.

I can't do that, though. I'm a doctor, well, PGI. Post-graduate intern. Not yet licensed, just graduated from four years of hell called medical school. But still, even without the license, the truth of the matter is, I still need to cater to the needs of my patients.

I groaned. The heat was killing me. I wish I could leave, pick up an ice-cold water from 360 Pharmacy just across the street, go home and TAKE. A. SHOWER.

I had called the Engineering Department about this damned air conditioner. They said they would be here. And that was five hours ago. When is this day going to end? How hot is this ER going to be? My goodness! I inwardly complained.

I looked up at the wall clock at the ER's triage area. It read 4:45 PM. An hour and fifteen minutes more, and I'll be out of here! I watched the clock's hands move, willing time to move faster.

Why was time moving so slow today? Why am I suffering in this heat? Why? Why? Why?

"Excuse me, my sister needs to see a doctor," a voice shook me from my wayward, water-filled thoughts.

I looked up, meeting the eyes of a guy with bushy eyebrows knitted together. He looked...well...good. For a guy with blonde hair, which typically does not match the skin color of most Filipino guys, his hair color suits him perfectly.

"What seems to be the problem, sir?" I asked him. Ohhh. What an eye candy!

He gestured towards the girl with him. "My sister got bitten by a rat. My mom says she needs a tetanus shot," the guy explained.

I pursed my lips and nodded. Rat bites were considered non-urgent cases. I reached for the ER outpatient form and a pen and handed it to him. "Please fill this up, sir. Once completed, please return them to me," I instructed him.
