April 2018

Sejun's POV

The sky was downcast with a promise of heavy rain, the tops of the trees rustling with the wind. This was the perfect weather to stay in bed and cuddle. Sadly, I had to hustle. I had a training to go to. I hurriedly ran and reached safety just as the sky let loose with a torrent of rain.

"That was close," I muttered to myself as I made my way to the dance studio where Stell, Justin, and Josh were watching videos on Justin's phone while waiting for training to start. Ken was late, as usual.

"It's raining outside," I announced as I entered the dance studio.

They ignored me.

Okay, then.

"What are you guys watching?" I asked as I set my bag on the corner.

"What is Love," Josh answered.

Oh, right. TWICE just had their comeback. TWICE was one of the more famous girl groups in South Korea and Josh, Stell and Justin were huge fans. To demonstrate how huge their love was for TWICE, the three of them made it a habit to learn the choreographies to their new songs. To be fair, they were really good at dancing to girl groups. The three of them should put on wigs and skirts and give TWICE a run for their money. They'd have a rival. Char.

I shrugged and pulled out my phone and earphones and listened to the playlist that Gab had curated just for me, ignoring the three boys who were immersed in learning the choreography. It would be the first time that I would be listening to this particular playlist. I smiled as soon as Forevermore played. Guess we have a theme song now.

I scrolled down, reading the song titles. Like I'm Gonna Lose You, Crazier, Just the Way You Are, No One, All of Me, Your Love, 214, Your Universe. All of her favorites, now my favorites too. I sat there and leaned my head on the wall, waiting for us to be complete.

As I waited, I tried to think of a new melody, something that I can use for a song that I was writing for Gab. For now, my songs were about chasing dreams and not giving up. They were not love songs.

I have always wanted people to be uplifted whenever they would hear my songs. I love it when other people would say that they were inspired by the songs that I write. The other members of SB19 would tell me that my songs gave them the courage to fight and pursue their aspirations in life.

They said my songs were incredible.

I wanted to write an incredible song for Gab too. After everything that she had done for me, being so supportive of my starting career, always being there for me, encouraging me to do better, I wanted to gift her with a song- something that would show how much I love and how much I appreciate her existence.

The only problem was, I was having a hard time trying to find the perfect melody. I had plans, all of whom I shared with Stell. I shared with him possible melodies that I concocted. His response was, "It's good, dre."

But the thing was, I was not aiming for good. I was aiming for the best. I wanted the best for Gab. Stell had admonished me about it, telling me that I was too ambitious, such a perfectionist. But Gab deserves perfection. Nothing less.

I guess I still have to try harder.

At about 7:59, Ken wandered in, looking bleary-eyed. He was on time- which was rare. During my first day of training, Teacher Hong had announced her rules. Rule number 1 was: Be on time. This rule was often broken by Ken. He usually arrives at around 5 to 15 minutes after 8 then he would earn a scolding from Teacher Hong because of his habitual tardiness.
