"There's nothing there- Is that a ranch house I see there?" The cab driver blinked twice.
"Do I look like I care?" Clarisse glared at him. The cab driver flinched as Clarisse ushered us out as she paid.
"Oh no. Great. Just great." Percy threw his hands up in defeat. In what? I have no idea.
"Why? What's wrong?" I asked as the cab sped off.
"I left the keys for mom's apartment in my bag. And I left my bag at school."
"Well, there's nothing we can do about that. Come on, Chiron's waiting." Clarisse walked towards Half-blood hill. Thalia's tree blossomed with the Golden Fleece while Peleus continues to guard it.
The Athena Parthenos can be seen clearly with its majestic glow. Or maybe because it was 40 feet tall. Just looking at it made me remember what happened back at Rome. I pushed the thought away. It was long over.
"What happened at the lab, Seaweed Brain?" I asked as we followed Clarisse into camp.
"Experiments gone wrong. I just randomly mixed vials and poured them on this thing." Percy demonstrated it with his hands. "Then boom. No one cared so I let myself out."
"No one cared?" I asked.
"Yeah. Some of them went out but the rest didn't. It's like the students there were automatons and just following orders from someone. They were there but not really there. You get it?"
"Yeah. I encountered a friend of a cheerleader we both know and there was a mortal mortally wounded. None of the students in my class heard anything. They were quiet the whole time."
"A cheerleader? Kelli?" I swatted him in the head.
"Don't say her name outloud, Seaweed brain." I rolled my eyes.
"Well, that's strange." He pointed out. "I can't believe that she has a friend."
"I was being ironic."
"So was I." He kissed my forehead. I stomped on his foot. "What was that for?"
"I love you too." I smirked and went to Clarisse who headed straight to the ampitheater. There, dozens of campers chatted quietly to themselves as Chiron paced back and forth by the unlit camp fire.
"Chiron! Here they are." Clarisse called out to the activities director who turned to her the minute she talked.
"At least they were able to make it out okay." Chiron sighed. He appeared to have been really tired and worried.
"Why? Shouldn't we be okay?" Percy asked as he stood next to me.
"Sit down, child. I'm afraid I have terrible news to share." Chiron waited until we got to our seats and ordered everyone to keep silent. Everyone obliged without a second's thought.
Percy squeezed my hand. I could tell that he knew that something bad was ought to happen.
"Terrible news comes from Lady Hecate. According to her, the mist has begun to dissipate. Mortals have started to see what is beyond the mist. They see monsters. Chaos is raging down the cities."
A camper behind us asked "So what?" I think he was an Ares camper.
"If chaos continues to go on, millions of mortals will die. They tend to do things in animalistic ways if they cannot explain what is happening. We cannot let that happen. The fate of the world unintentionally is up to you now. And since the mist doesn't work anymore, your lives are also in danger."
