Tension laid over the village like a blanket. Since the day of the trial, there had been murmurs of civil war. The Torikk clan had fortified the area of the village in which their clan lived. While the entire village was in a standoff, Grantaw and Boreen had been locked in a home together discussing the events.
"I heard you whisper to that traitor, what did you say?"
"I told him to honor Rawn, I did not mean what he said. You lived under the chief's rule. You knew he was a man of peace and honor." Boreen watched Grantaw's eyes as she spoke to him. He did not see a flicker of deceit.
"I believe you. We must do something to ease the tension of the tribe then. If things stay the way they are now I fear full destruction of our tribe." The two sat in silence for a few hours after that. They both couldn't think of a single way to calm the two sides.
The new morning sun came through the window. "It is morning and still we have no plan" Grantaw sounded defeated.
"We could just let them fight." Boreen truly meant this. "Perhaps the fight would show them they are being crazy."
"I would rather marry off my daughter then do that," Grantaw said through chuckles.
"Wait that could be the solution."
"Marry my daughter? No, she is free to choose her husband, it is not my place."
"But if the two clans became connected this way they would be fighting family. The Torikks care too much for the clan to fight to the death with one of its own."
"You are serious." Grantaw looked stunned. "That is such an old method. Betrothal is far beneath us."
"Then let's test it. Let us at least meet and go from there. Grantaw what could we lose? It could save our people." Boreen honestly didn't like the idea of marriage. He saw the way the other older cats disdain their single mate. They argued it wasn't in their nature to be tied to one and they regretted doing it, but still, a few others looked happy. Dawn was one such cat. He shows his love for Grantaw whenever ever possible. Maybe this could be worth it." Grantaw lowered her head and nodded. The two of them went out into the village. Grantaw took the lead. Boreen made sure he walked with pride. He felt that more than just those fine thought he was not worthy of the position he was now in and felt the need to prove them all wrong.
The two fo them finally arrived at a home. It seemed almost too simple to be the daughter of the former chief. Grantaw just went straight in without knocking. She was out of sight for a few minutes before she reappeared this time with a younger girl. She actually looked to be close to Boreen's age. The realization removed a bit of weight from his shoulders. As he looked at her he saw her to be a beautiful young cat. Her fur smooth and black, a stark contrast to his white fur. She also looked to be fit, another good surprise in his eyes.
"This is my daughter, Mueawt." Grantaw said as Boreen still looking at her body.
"You know I'm not just some kind of meat my chief." Her voice rang in his ears as if it came straight from the gods. He instantly looked up to her eyes, embarrassed for a moment, until he saw her eyes. They were uniquely beautiful, something he had never seen before. The right was a deep purple and the left a bright pink.
"You are touched by the gods." The mother and daughter remained silent for a few seconds and then, simultaneously bursted out laughing.
