The tribe created a new village over the course of three months and finally started to farm as they had before. Over the fourth month, the tribe had found its way back to a comfortable state, arguably more so than before. As happy as everyone was, Mue had a worry. They could see that winter was still surrounding the valley, and yet the valley had no signs of winter at all. She expressed her fears to Boreen, but he had far too much on his hands to look any further into it. Mue took it upon herself to look further into it at this point, she was after all the new head shamen. She took a few days but eventually found a part of the valley that swarmed with spiritual power.
"Spirits of the valley, I beg your forgiveness. My tribe entered your lands without permission. What can we do to gain your forgiveness?" Gusts of wind began to spin around her. She stayed silent for a few minutes but heard nothing. Again she tried. "Please spirits, I will even sacrifice myself to you if I must." Again the spirits ignored her. Defeated, she returned to the new village.
"How did your quest with the spirits go well my love?" Boreen was waiting for Mue even though she arrived at their home late.
"Not at all," Mue spoke with a slight growl in her voice. The levels of frustration she felt were astounding. The frustration mixed with the fear made her very irritable.
"My love, should I worry?" Boreen had made his way over to her. As he went to wrap his arms around her she collapsed into his embrace, tears falling down her face.
"They refused to communicate with me." She got through stifled sobs. An instant weight came down on Boreen's shoulders.
"What should we do, my love?"
"We can't ask the tribe to leave again so soon. We must do what we can to protect them. I don't know if the spirits have accepted us or not. I fear what will happen if they reject us."
While Mue continued to fret her daughter, Vell, spent her days accepting the praise she got for finding the valley. The only issue was, it felt empty. She began to do more around the village. There was no task too small. One day she found herself out in the wilds of the valley. She went around as silently as she could. The more she went around the more she learned about the valley itself. She started to see all of the different creatures and recognize all of the plants in the area. She continued going out every day early in the morning and not coming back to the village until late at night. Everything seemed normal, except for one thing. She saw a large amount of the fauna going missing but had no predator that accounted for the level of animals going missing. They were all the top of their food chain. She began looking for signs of the creature. The first thing she could track was broken tree branches. The only issue was she would lose the tracks once it left the wooded area. She went back to her village to talk to her mother. She explained to her mother everything she had discovered.
"Maybe the spirits can help us." Mue began to call the spirits to her again. Like the last time, nothing happened when she called. She couldn't figure out why she couldn't contact the spirits. She began to beg again in case they were only ignoring her. "Please show me a sign of what you want." Just then a thunderous crack bellowed through the valley. Within seconds of the sound, the two could hear screams coming from different parts of the village. Vell looked up and saw a gigantic dragon soaring down the mountainside heading straight for the village.
