A few moons had passed. Boreen and Mue still spent quite a bit of time together, and them being seen together had eased the overall shock and tension of Rawn's death. Boreen still feared that there was a faction that resisted his position but knew he couldn't let that stop him from being the best he could be. He now felt he had taken to the position well. He had to oversee a few things here and there, sort out a few squabbles amongst the tribe. Everything had been going smoothly.
Today was a special day, or at the very least had the potential to be. Boreen had felt himself falling for Mue. Today he had planned to ask her to bind with him. Though he usually planned most things out this time he figured he would just see how it played out.
He was already on his way to see her, talking to himself, walking through the different ideas he had. He was running through his fifth or sixth idea when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Are you talking to yourself my chief?" He spun his head around to see Mue looking at him, her eyes boring into his.
"Oh, Mue, I hadn't seen you there."
"You don't want to see me? And here I was thinking we were gonna go for a hunt today."
"No, no, no. let's go hunt. I was just coming to see you."
"Then keep up." Mue bolted off towards the edge of the forest. Smiling Boreen pursued her. The two frolicked as they ran to the forest. As they found their way under the canopy of the trees they became far more serious. Slowing down, Boreen climbed up the nearest tree, removing any tracks he might have left behind. Behind him, Mue followed his every move. Over time they had spent together the two had become very adept at hunting together, reaching the point they didn't even need to talk or look at each other. The two had reached a skill some of the oldest bound families couldn't do. The moment was perfect for Boreen. It only proved to himself they should bind themselves. Mue made a slight click noise as she spotted a lone xei. The two could kill the larger animal if they kept their stealth
"Boreen," The word caught him off guard, they hadn't needed to speak while hunting in two moons. "Did you kill the former chief?" He spun to look at Mue.
"No, I tried to save him.," he looked into Mue's eyes, "He refused me bringing him home. He was ready to go." She sat looking deeply into his eyes for what felt to him like an eternity
"We need to go." Mue finally spoke up.
"But the kill is right there, that will feed us for ages."
"Go!" She shouted as she pushed him. Just then an arrow flew through where his head was and stuck into the tree next to him. Spinning through the air he landed stiffly in the dirt. Without wasting a movement he ran towards the arrow origin. A second cut through the air towards his face. Moving his head just enough to hear the arrow whistle past his year he locked his gaze on the exact point it came from and pounced towards it. He felt his claws sink into the chest of a cat before he could even see what he had grabbed onto. The body felt lifeless within seconds. Moving his gaze up he picked out two more looking down at them holding spears. He found it odd to notice the grin on his own face. He was enjoying the danger. Dashing forward to the close he felt the spear graze his chest, drawing blood as it did. It didn't stop him at all. He wrapped his claws around the teeth on either side of the soon dead cats jaw and pulled them apart. The separated lower jaw fell to the ground as the cat it once belonged to drowned on its own blood. The last cat threw its spear towards Boreen. It sloppily flew past his shoulder. He took his time to retrieve it for himself, only to throw it back at the original owner. It caught it flush in the back. The target fell to the ground, limp. Boreen didn't even bother going to check on it.
"Mue! Where are you!" He turned to where they once were. She still sat on the same tree, stunned. "We need to talk."
