~Dorothy Sawdon~I woke up to the insesant sound of my phone ringing, groggily sitting up and rubbing my eyes with close fists. I began feeling the space of my bed side table, looking for my phone and finding when the call was at the final ring.
I brought it up to my ear after answering it, my eyes closed while doing all this.
"Hello, Dorothy" the voice that came thorough the receiver woke me up instantly, my eyes shooting open and face immediately contorting into a bitter expression, stoic and cold. My mouth felt dry and I had the sudden urge to throw my phone at a wall.
I didn't reply, fist balling up in rage as he spoke again, "Are you there?"
No reply.
"Well, I know you are" he said with a sigh, "And I would like you to listen to me"
I wanted to hang up right away but I knew that I still owed this man something, he might have been an evil monster but he was still the one paying all my bills. He hadn't called me in months and I was actually hoping he would keep it that way for a lot longer.
"I don't want to here a thing" I gritted out. I heard him sigh.
"I want you to come back" he said finally. A knock on the door sounded following his sentence.
"Dorothy? Hurry up, we've got school in 30 minutes" Rachel's voice sounded from the other side of the door, making me ansy.
"We'll talk later" I spat into the phone, hanging up, throwing the phone down and going over to the door, opening up and being met with a topless Rachel.
"Rachel!" I exclaimed.
"Who were you talking to?" she asked, stepping into the room and discarding of the rest of her clothes that was her pyjama bottoms. She had moved her clothes into a part of my closet already so she went there to grab her robe, draping it over herself.
"No one" I lied, watching her head into the bathroom, turning around once to raise a brow at me. "Really"
She didn't seem convince but she went into the bathroom anyway, closing the door behind her. I sighed after she left, deciding to just put on clothes and fix my hair.
I picked out an oversized patterned shirt and jean shorts, quickly undressing myself and then putting on my clothes. I went to the vanity and sat there, lathering myself with perfume and then tieing my hair up in a messy bun.
Rachel exited the bathroom soon, still undressed so I quickly slipped out before she dropped the robe right in front of me. She was way too comfortable with nudity.
I was about to get started on breakfast but when I got to the kitchen, I found the counter already flamboyantly filled with all kinds of food. French toast, bowls of fruit, pancakes, muffins, cups of tea and orange juice.
Did Rachel make this?
She emerged from the room just then, lips pulling into a smile when she saw me. "Are you gonna eat it or stare at it?"
"When did you make all this?" I sat down, grabbing a fork and putting a pineapple cube in my mouth. She shrugged, coming to sit next to me.
"Sometime before you bagn mumbling nonsense in your sleep" she laughed, "Oxes and pancakes?" she laughed. "A bit of inspiration for breakfast"
I rolled my eyes at her, secretly hoping I hadn't said anything embarrassing. I knew I mumbled a lot in my sleep but it was usually my day thoughts and I really wished I hadn't said anything about Rachel.
"So... Not to pry but who were you yelling at over the phone this morning?" she asked, munching on a strawberry.
I didn't realize I was yelling until now, mentally searching for excuses to tell her so she'd leave me alone.
"Uh... It was Jordan" simple but it was the only thing I could think of as of now. She shook her head at me.
"Dorothy..." she said in a serious tone.
"I see you're using every opportunity you get to say my name now huh?" I changed the topic.
"Fine, don't tell me but next time you want to change the topic, at least be less obvious" I threw an apple slice at her, it landing on her cheek and sliding down slowly. I chuckled, satisfied with how exasperated she looked. "Child".

During lunch period, I looked over to the lunch table where Rachel was usually sat with Ryan with his group of popular friends --Well not usually but sometimes-- and she wasn't there. The rest of them were, though, seemingly enjoying their time together laughing without a care in the world. Some friends they were.
I got up, making Jordan and some girl she was seeing look up at me, confusion. I gave an excuse, not even knowing the real reason I was leaving or where I was leaving to. I thought I was going to find Rachel.
I walked around the nearly empty hall, thinking that by some wonderful miracle, Rachel would run into me. I continued down Tha hall till I was at the front door of the school, opening it and of course finding Rachel there, about to board her bike.
She saw me.
"Hey" she waved me over. I looked at her, confused but went either way going over and meeting her there.
"Let's go" she said, handing me her helmet. I took it.
"Go where?" I asked, a bit uneasy that she was planning on ditching. "And during school hours? I don't think that's a good idea..."
She rolled her eyes at me, "We are going to the diner a few blocks from here and we'll be back before anyone even realizes we were gone"
"I don't know..." I honestly didn't want to ditch school at all. It wasn't that I hadn't before but it just made me feel a horrible guilt.
"We're not ditching" she assured, "I promise we'll be back by next period... If you get on now"
"Go by yourself" I said, preparing to leave but what she said next stopped me.
"I can't" she said, "How am I supposed to know you won't rat me out"
I shrugged, "Leave it to chance"
She then wrapped her arm around my waist, putting the helmet on my head with the other one and giving me one last pleading look, after she turned me around and we were chest-to-chest.
I gulped, "Fine"
She then smiled, breaking our embrace and getting on the bike, motioning for me to get on also. I did.
To be continued..
