~Dorothy Sawdon~

It was raining on my way home and I borrowed an umbrella from the school, my feet hurrying to get home but I took well over 45 minutes. It was heavier when I got there, storming up the stairs to see Rachel which, confirmed by her bike parked outside was home.

"'Sup, D?" she smiled when she saw me, legs folded up to her chest and wearing a really big sweater whose huge sleeves covered her fingers. She put her phone down and looked at me curiously after gauging my expression. "Something uh, wrong?"

I hurled at her, knocking her down on the couch and looking into her confused black eyes. "Uhh, D? What's --"

She was cut off by the sound of our lips smashing together, my lips hitting teeth and immediately bruising. She was a little slow to realize what was going on but immediately reciprocated when she did. Her hands went to my hair expertly and she opened her mouth, pulling me closer. I tasted sour patches on her lips and it was wonderful. Her lips were wonderful, her tongue was wonderful and the heat was wonderful. We only broke off out of need for breath.

I expected to find her smirking but the look in her eyes were sincere and pure and innocent. She sucked in a breath and wrapped her arms around me, putting her forehead on my shoulder blades and inhaling again, her chest rising and falling against mine.

"So, huh, what's up?" she asked again, sounding breathless and like she was smiling.

"Oh, nothing" I smiled too, tightening my grip on her waist and breathing in her heavenly scent.

"Hey, D. Remind me to call Ryan, will you?"

I laughed.

I started at the sound of Rachel's phone ringing across the room.

"Fuck" she muttered and didn't make any move to get up, her hands on my thighs. "I don't have to answer that"

I rolled my eyes at her and got up instead, my insides smiling as I went to the phone and picked the call. "Hiya"

"Ra- Hey, Dorothy?" Ronnie's voice came through the receiver. "What's up? Is Rachel there?"

"She's here alright" I replied, feeling Rachel's arms wrap around my waist from behind.

"Good. Tell her to get her stanky ass to the diner before I block her from my Netflix subscription" she stated and I could feel Rachel rolling her eyes behind me. "And take care, Dorothy".

I put the phone down and turned around in Rachel's arms, so I was facing her. "So... Work?"

She scoffed, "I'm not leaving here" she leaned closer to me, her dark eyes clear and her lips the most delicious thing ever. "I'd rather we proceed where we left of..."

"Nope, you're going" I tried to wriggle free from her arms but to no avail. She held me tight in her arms. I sighed, "I'll even go with you"

Her grip loosened a bit. "...Fine"

I slid from her arms a bit reluctantly and grabbed for my coat while Rachel reached for her keys.

"If we're going, we have 14 minutes to get there" she said, giving me a side look. I smirked at her.

"Then we're going to have to pump the brakes"

Sal's was bustling with people, going out and coming in, an afternoon rush of people. That Ronnie had to handle all on her own.

"Shit" Rachel muttered, throwing her helmet off and whipping her her back over her shoulder. "Ronnie is gonna kill me"

"Yeah" i said as Rachel took my arm, dragging me forward, past the crowd of people into the busy diner.

Rachel hurried up to the counter and grabbed an apron, throwing it on quickly. Ronnie was yelling over the crowd, seeming to dart all around. She found the counter and saw Rachel, her eyes clouding over in rage as her gaze locked with her sister's.

"Rachel-"

"Ronnie, calm down. Yeah, I was late but I'm here now and yelling will only waste more time, won't it?" Rachel reasoned. Ronnie was steaming but instead slammed a written order into Rachel's chest and turned around, stomping off.

Rachel grimaced, staring at the order. "A sour-croute burger and sweet potato fries"

"Ew" I said, reaching for the last apron, a spare one.

Rachel raised a brow at me, "What are you doing?"

"What does it look like, Einstein?" I scoffed, tying my hair up in a messy bun. "I'm saving your ass"

I took the order from her and leaned over I to the kitchens handing it over and watching the cooks scramble to get it done.

"I'll take tables 4, 6 and 7" I said, "And you and Ronnie can handle the rest"

She nodded mutely and I blew her a kiss before darting to take an impatient looking man's order.

The noon blew by with the three of us waiting the tables, and by five, the last two tables remained from the rush remained, their occupants seeming utterly satisfied.

I found Rachel leaning against the counter, watching me as I approached her, her signature bad girl smirk back on her face.

Her hand grabbed onto my waist, pulling me close to her, so close that I ould smell her unnecessarily expensive shampoo like I was sniffing T from the bottle.

"You were good today" she said, smiling up to her eyes.

I shoved her playfully. "I'm always good, asshat"

She rolled her eyes and buried her fingers into my hair, pulling my face to hers, her lips a mere inch from mine, until-

"I seemed to have missed something" Ronnie's voice stopped us, making Rachel groan deep in her throat, her eyes closing in anguish. "You went from denying your feelings for her to shoving you tongue down her throat, I don't get it"

I smiled inwardly, untying my apron and putting it back up, leaving Rachel behind.

"It's none of your business, Ronnie" Rachel scowled and Ronnie erupted in laughter.

"Consider this payback for arriving late" the older of the two stated, then turned her gaze over to me. She gave me a lingering look before looking away and making for the back room. "See ya, Dorothy"

I nodded and gave her a salute before heading for the door. My hand was on the knowb when Rachel tunneled past me to get outside first. I rolled my eyes at her childishness but smiled nonetheless.

I went for the knob again but yet, another interruption.

Ronnie pulled the door open for me instead, pinning me with a stare. "Goodnight, Dorothy"

I smiled up at her, "Goodnight"

She obviously wasn't done talking so I stayed and we both stared at each other for a few seconds before she whispered to me.

"Rachel. She might act tough, kid but she's really sensitive" she said and leaned in. "So there, don't hurt my baby sister, okay?"

I nodded mutely then smiled. "Wouldn't dream of it"

"Good" she winked and headed back in, closing the door behind her.

Rachel narrowed her eyes at me. "Coming, D?"
