Breathing

Dahee woke up early, her excitement refusing to let her sleep any longer. She found herself staring into the bathroom mirror, heart racing with anticipation, breath caught in her throat. She had been in there for over an hour, trying to calm her nerves.

"Relax, Dahee," she murmured to herself, her voice wavering slightly. "The date isn't until 7 pm. There's no need to rush."

Taking a deep breath, she grabbed her toothbrush and toothpaste, attempting to distract herself. "I need music," she muttered, moving back to her room to fetch her phone. Placing it on the bathroom counter, she played a calming song, hoping to ease her anxious mind.

Suddenly, her music was interrupted by an incoming call. Dahee hesitated for a moment, then answered on the second ring.

"Yes?" she greeted, toothbrush still in hand.

"Dahee?" Jaemin's voice came through the phone, sending butterflies swirling in her stomach.

"Jaemin. What is it?" Dahee felt a rush of nervous excitement.

"I'm sorry, but can we move our date to 12 pm? I have a family dinner later," Jaemin explained quickly.

Dahee's heart skipped a beat. "It's fine, Jaemin."

"Oh, okay! I'll see you later then?"

"Yeah, see you!" Dahee replied, her mind now racing with the realization of the time.

Glancing at her phone, it read 10:43 AM. "Oh no!" she exclaimed, spitting out her toothpaste and rushing to shower.

In her haste, she accidentally turned on the hot water first, causing her to yelp before adjusting the temperature to warm. Finally composed, she took a deep breath and stepped under the spray, letting the water soothe her frazzled nerves.

After her shower, Dahee faced another dilemma: choosing an outfit. She stood in front of her closet, pondering her options.

"What should I wear?" she mused aloud, brows furrowing.

"Unnie, I'm heading out—" Gayoung, her sister, interrupted, already dressed. "You're leaving? Where?"

"Me? Oh, no, just felt like showering," Dahee improvised, eyeing Gayoung skeptically.

"In those clothes?" Dahee raised an eyebrow knowingly.

Gayoung sighed, realizing she couldn't deceive her sister. "Fine, I trust Yeji to look after me."

"Good. I trust you," Dahee said firmly, closing the conversation.

Finally settling on an outfit, Dahee ironed her clothes and dressed quickly. She checked herself in the mirror, feeling satisfied until a sudden thought struck her.

"What if it's a fancy dinner?" she fretted, grabbing her phone to text Jaemin.

"Handsome Cutie," she chuckled at his contact name. "Hi, I wanted to ask where are we going?"
