Emma
"Are you sure?" Olivia asked. We were at one of our favorite restaurants. I needed to spill to someone. Frankly I didn't want to tell Cam until I absolutely had to.
"I took two tests, Liv."
"It's okay. Carter will be happy."
My eyes went wide. Olivia didn't know the whole story yet. "It's not his." I admitted.
"Wait, who?"
"Ethan."
"When?"
"After his dad's funeral."
"Emma—"
"I don't think I'm marrying Carter." I said.
"What happened?"
"I just feel like I never got over Ethan. A part of me still loves him, and it's prominent enough that I've been having second thoughts about Carter. And then Ethan needed to get away from his house, and we ended up drunk in a motel in New Hampshire. I took a shower, and the next thing I knew, Ethan and I were doing it until we couldn't anymore. And I felt so conflicted because the emotions and feelings I felt were way stronger than I've ever felt about Carter."
"Emma, look. You don't have to get married if you don't want to."
"I just feel bad because I do love him. I love Carter, but I don't think I'll be able to love him as much as I love Ethan."
"You need to do what makes you happy." She said. "I'm with you every step of the way, okay?"
I nodded. "Okay."
I didn't know how I was supposed to break the news to Carter. I was gonna break his heart, but there was no point in hurting him worse by staying.
But first I needed to tell Ethan.

Ethan
It was a Sunday when Emma knocked on my door.
I wasn't expecting her, but it was fine. I was just eating a sandwich and talking to my mom on the phone.
"Hey, what's up?" I asked. Then I realized she was crying, and I pulled her into my arms immediately. "What's going on?"
"Ethan, I'm pregnant."
I hugged her tighter, hating that she was upset. I knew it was my child. We didn't even think about protection the night of my dad's funeral.
We didn't have time to.
"Shhhh. It's okay. It's okay. I'm here." I said, my hand resting in her hair as I whispered to her.
"It's not okay though. I can't get married, Ethan. I have to break up with him. I'm so scared."
"Don't be. I'm right here." I said. "Here, come in. It's cold."
We went inside, and Emma sat down on the couch.
Once I put her coat on the chair, and I sat down next to her, I pulled her into my arms, and she nuzzled her head into my chest.
"Emma, it's gonna be okay."
"I just don't know what to do."
"Emma, I'd do anything for you. Anything. It's gonna be okay."
"I have to break up with him." She whispered.
"If that's what you feel is best. I'm here for you no matter what."
