As he navigated his sports car through the mid-morning traffic, Taeyong placed his hands firmly on the driving wheel. Last night was the latest in a string of sleepless nights since his mother chose to flip his life upside down.
He ruffled his hair with his hands. Every muscle in his body pleaded for sleep, and he was fatigued. He'd been awake all night, pondering Jennie's likely response. He was dying of boredom from all the waiting. He knew he needed to be patient, but he was eager to learn Jennie's response. A part of him wished she would say no, heck, she was literally his best friend for god’s sake.
He knew she deserved more than what he could give her. However, there was a part of him that hoped she would say yes. Not because he thought it would solve his mother's ultimatum, but because he felt she was the best person to help him through this. After all, she was his best friend.
He came to a halt at a red light and noticed the massive Tiffany and Co store on the corner while he waited for the signal to turn green. This sparked an idea in him. He pushed forward and attempted to find a parking space as soon as the traffic lights changed colour.
He found himself standing in front of the popular jewellery store's big display window a few minutes later. He was mesmerized by the gleaming stones and beautiful jewellery that had been elegantly displayed.
Fuck, Taeyong, you’re crazy. He cursed himself. Jennie hasn't even responded to his question yet. But, just in case, it's never a bad idea to be prepared. He took a deep breath and grabbed for the doorknob, allowing himself into the store. Once inside, he cautiously examined the display cases, unsure of what to do next.
"Good morning, sir; can I help you?" With a pleasant smile, one of the salespeople behind the counter inquired.
Taeyong returned the smile. He inquired, "I was hoping you could show me some rings."
"Sir, are you looking for a certain ring?" As she escorted him to a display case full of gleaming jewellery, the salesperson inquired.
"Uh, I'm actually looking for a diamond ring," Taeyong confessed, scratching his nape as his cheeks flushed.
The salesperson smiled as she walked over to the glass counter and placed a tray of excellent diamond rings for Taeyong to admire.
"Sir, we offer a variety of engagement rings. Do you know what she likes?" For a brief while, Taeyong was deafeningly quiet. He had no idea what Jennie's preferences were.
"It can occasionally helpful to describe her. What are her favourite and least favourite things?" With a friendly smile, the salesperson suggested.
