I read a depressing fan fiction last night on ao3 that made me cry so this is me fixing it to stop myself getting sad everytime I remember it :) (it has a happy ending don't worry.)
"Okay so what I'm going to do is when I ask this question, if it applies to you, raise your hand." Richie Tozier instructed the crowd.
"How many of you have ever been in love with your best friend?"
A sea of hands rose up on cue, and the few that didn't looked confused.
"Yeah! You guys get what I'm on about!" Richie laughed into the michrophone.
"So get this, right. Me and my childhood friends meet up again after 30 or so years, and I see them again. I have been in love with this bitch for 30 years, and the first thing I hear him say to me; 'Haha look at these guys'." Richie said, mimicking the hand motion.
There was an awkward pause.
"Oh yeah. Should probably mention that I'm gay."
The crowd cheered loudly.
"Certainly got a better reaction than my parents." He pretended to look nervous.
"M-Mom, Dad, I like dick." Richie said in a high pitched voice.
The crowd laughed hysterically.
"I'm just kidding with you guys. My voice was a lot higher."
His comedy routine had changed in the few weeks that had passed since he left Derry. It turns out, he was a better actor than he previously thought.
"So after that fiasco, my parents told me that it was against their religion. I never understood that, because my parents were Jewish. Either I'm dumb or Jewish means something else."
Another laugh from the crowd.
Richie spread his arms out. "Look at me now Mom and Dad!"
He spotted his friend Beverly Marsh in the crowd, standing in the back.
"Circling back around, being in love with your best friend is way more trouble than it's worth."
The audience cheered in agreement.
"Right? One, they marry a woman like ten times their body weight, two, they reject you, and three, they die!"
There was a silence.
"Just kidding he never rejected me. As if I had the balls to ask him out."
Another silence.
"Let's talk about some kinds of women though..." Richie fell back into his old comedy routine, always keeping it in the back of his mind for back up. In truth, he couldn't wait for this show in particular to be over. It had been a few weeks after Derry, and Richie jumped into his work to distract himself from the constant, mind numbing pain. Slowly, the Loser's had gone back to their normal lives, but nothing could be the same.
Beverly has finally gotten together with Ben, and they lived together in LA with Richie. Most nights Beverly would stay with Richie for hours because she knew better than anybody how bad he was hurting inside.
"Well my slots over. Hopefully you remember me in the flood of comedians here tonight. And remember, when in doubt, suck some dick motherfuckers. Goodnight!" Richie held his hand out to the crowd, to cheers, and walked off the stage.
"Richie." Beverly was waiting in his dressing room. The security must have recognised her and let her in.
