We picked up the pieces of the brush, while Angy comforted Mani. I peeped over everyone to look at the window beside the washroom, and as expected, it was wide open. I remembered closing the window panes. 'Was the thing inside our room?' I thought to myself.
I didn't get any answer. We all sat down beside Mani and comforted Mani, who was sobbing profusely, and then got to take a deep sleep because that night, we six had chalked the plan of staying awake the whole night. I was a mere adolescent of 16 when we had faced this incident.
I was actually not expecting what was going to follow that night. I had sensed a whole lot of things before entering into the room. It was picture perfect to me that the entity wasn't pleased with our appearance in here. We had disturbed them by getting into their lair.
I had actually felt the dark aura and smokes all around us. The existence of the ominous spirits which were yet to attain salvation was confirmed. The night started to grow deep. The night rolled on. All the six of us were ready for the night-waky. So we were on the highest alert of our senses.
Gradually the clock had struck 1AM. There was full of strangeness in the atmosphere by then. I didn't spill it out to anyone of the other fives, but I kept on smelling the strong whiff of sulphur.
There was a strange rustling all around the place. As far as I remember now, that sound had continued throughout the night. I shuddered with the chills that went down through my spine. Yet, there was a lot more to follow of which I was absolutely unaware of.
Little did I know at that time, that we six were going to live one of the worst nightmares of our lives. As the night grew dense, the atmosphere began to grow musty and pungent. I started to grow anxious. It seemed as if the others were also noticing the abrupt change of the atmosphere. The smell started to grow more dense. It began to smell like silica and was closing to rotten eggs.
"Relax buddy" Vas comforted me as she patted on my back. I smiled at her. I noticed Mayu. She was vulnerable at that point of time. Ashme was scared out of her wits. 'Spirits feed on fear. Sammy you need to be brave.' I chanted it repeatedly to myself mentally. All of a sudden, all the lights of the room went off! We scurried to our phones to switch on the flash lights.
"What a coincidence!" Angy let out a sigh in despire. And then, what we never expected to happen in our worst nightmares, the window beside the washroom creaked open but I didn'tsee anything or anyone get in. A lump stuck to my throat. There was a knock on our main door. We didn't move. There was a thunderous banging on the door once again. No one flinched.Suddenly, our beds began to shake.
I got goosebumps. Our mobile's flash lights went off all of a sudden. We started to manipulate the notification bars of our phones. Nothing helped. We fumbled for each others hands and breathed a sigh of relief when we could feel each other. The bed stopped shaking after I don't remember after how many minutes as it seemed like an eternity to me. The smell of silica had worsen. It had actually aggravated by then. The street light greeted us with it's faint streaks.
I felt relief to see some source of light. Suddenly a question popped into my mind in that darkness, 'What if the spirit was malevolent? What would my parents do if I died tonight?' I thought. I didn't tell the others about it. My only option was to recall all the God's name I could remember at that time. I something crash in the darkness. I closed my eyes.
I was not sure about the others. We were clutching each others hand so tightly that I had lost sensation from both of my hands. A strong wind began to blow inside the room. I grew confused, scared, sad, unhappy. All the emotions got mixed and matched and I was feeling hollow from within. I think I, rather we, had collapsed that night.
I didn't see anyone entering into the room through the window the last night as far as I could remember.
But the next morning (I don't remember whether we fainted or felt asleep)when we woke up, we found a lot of bruises all over our body. Some of those bruise marks are still clearly engraved in my, rather our, body till date. It has been four long years since then.
Till today, I could not imagine that how close I had been to the other worldly people. We, all the six of us, were totally relieved when our bus rolled off leaving the place behind with it's own secrets. Till date I have not been able and did not even try to unravel the mysteries which I had a chance to face.
But I really thank my lucky stars for being saved from that dangerous place. I had never thought that a mere school trip, would become my most hair-raising paranormal experience in my little span of 20 years life. We were just a bundle of fear that night. This inexplicable feeling will never ever leave me in my life.
