Challan was nervous to walk into the building. She had been to this school of course but it was just that people would look at her so much. Well, call it staring if you will.
She always felt that people did this because she was so, different. I mean its not every day you see a girl with curly long white hair and darker skin. Not that many African American people came to Korea so I guess you could call her odd? She only had a couple of bad experiences. Sometimes people ask to touch her hair because most people in Korea don't have the same texture as her, she only says yes because she knows its just new and unusual. She was taller and wider than most girls who had skinny legs and arms. If she was in America maybe she would be pretty enough.
Although she has only met one or two racist people it still scares her. She constantly worries if people will avoid her, if they dislike her, if the think shes unattractive. She shouldn't care about people's opinions but she was really nice. All she could think about is how colored people are shown on TV. They always have to be the angry or aggressive ones. But that wasn't her. She wasn't some loud black girl on TV. She was just Challan. She just cared about people thought of her and she just couldn't help but feel like an outcast.
"Okay, today is good day." She took a deep breath and wiped away the anxious tears forming in her eyes. Not to mention she had anxiety, which was diagnosed. Even though she had every symptom for it for as long as she can remember, both her parents continue to say it doesn't exist.
Once she was in class she noticed that Yeji was absent today. Ugh, of course she would miss the bus on the day we have to do try outs. Challan took some deep breaths and massaged her forehead.
'This is nothing to be afraid of, just get your weight in quickly-' The thoughts of her attempting to calm down turned into a negative mentality. 'What if they see my weight and call me a pig..'

Challan was at lunch with her best friend Yeji when she heard some of the other fourth graders gossiping about her.
"Shes such a pig." "How can someone be so heavy." "Where does she get clothes to fit."
Yeji turned to the other table giving them a stolid look. "Just because she weighs a little more doesn't mean shes a pig, I bet no one calls your aunties pigs when they eat all the Melona.."
That sure did shut them up. But it didn't stop Challan from thinking about her eating habits. Truthfully, majority of the time all she ate was vegetables and rice. She had more taste for natural things, but no mater what she ate her body would always be just a little heavier.

Challan felt a tap on the shoulder causing her head to snap to the left. It was just DongHyun. She quickly apologized as her long hair nearly knocked the wind out of him. "Sorry Hyunnie."
He laughed and ruffled her hair. "It's fine, you should cut it." Donghyun sat in the desk next to her. "I'm assuming you're getting nervous because of tryouts.. specifically the part where they weigh you?" He had known her for around three years now, they normally only saw each other at school but still, he knew Challan like the back of his hand. And even though he was still building up the courage to admit it, he liked her too.
"Yeah.." Abashed, she looked down twirling a strand of her hair. She was afraid all the kids would laugh at her. She was already different enough. She didn't want to be any more of an outcast.
Why do I have to be the weird one..
