A year later...

(Y/n) sat at her desk, which was next to her coworker and sort-of friend, Kunikida's, desk. She was typing on her computer, working on a report for a recent case she had worked on with the aforementioned coworker. Although they weren't technically partners, they often got called together on cases since they seemed to somewhat get along.

She sighed, leaning her arm against her desk and resting her cheek on her hand. She adjusted the sleeve to her striped black and white long-sleeved shirt, pulling her free hand back to scratch her bare thigh as she wore black shorts. Her (f/c) rainboots squeaked slightly against the marble, something that would happen by pure accident when she adjusted anything.

Her matching (f/c) rain jacket rested on the back of her chair, ready to go in case she needed to grab it and run for a case or an emergency assignment. The latter happened more often than you'd think...

"Did you finish the report on the case pertaining to the multiple jewel burglaries?" Kunikida asked, not looking away from his laptop.

"I finished it five minutes ago. Do you want me to send it to you to look over?" (Y/N) responded, not looking away from her laptop either.

"You can if you want to, I don't mind either way."

"...I'll send it to you." She sent him a copy of the report, reading between the lines of his response. Whenever he says 'if you want to', he really means 'you should, you moron'. It was just the way those two spoke to one another, especially in the year that (Y/n) had been working at the Armed Detective Agency.

But her normal way of working quickly changed when he joined.

(Y/n) was typing on her computer, working on other reports and paperwork when she heard the president, Fukuzawa, call Kunikida into his office. The two shared a look, (Y/n) shrugging as if to say, 'I don't know, don't look at me.' Kunikida then stood up, walking to the president's office and leaving her alone at her desk. The only other company was Ranpo and he was about to go into a food coma from his rather large binge fest.

A few minutes passed and Kunikida was still in Fukuzawa's office for what was possibly an important matter. (Y/n), who was stuck working alone, thought to herself, I wonder what the president is talking to Kunikida about. Could he be working a secret job that only he should know about? I seriously doubt that actually. Maybe he's getting a raise or a promotion. Yeah, probably not that either.

Her thoughts quickly ceased when she heard the door to the president's office open, more than one pair of footsteps leaving. (Y/n) turned towards the sources, a piece of her hair falling in front of her face and out of her ponytail as she did so.

There she saw a man who was almost instantaneously etched into her head, something she often did when meeting new people. He was rather tall, with feathery dark hair and piercing dark eyes that seemed to light up at random moments. He wore a long beige overcoat, covering his many bandages as he shoved his hands into the pockets. Rather than having a gruff look, he was a rather attractive young man that had to be around her age.

"(Y/n)," Kunikida started, noticing her looking at the two men, "I'm afraid we're probably not going to be partners as often as we were previously."

You're afraid? Please, you're probably relieved. I'm not exactly the easiest person to work with.

Kunikida then gestured to the man standing next to him. "This is—"

"Osamu Dazai, twenty years old," he introduced himself, cutting Kunikida off and holding his hand out to (Y/n).

"(Y/n) (L/n), also twenty." She took it, shaking it briefly and attempting to let go and sit back in her seat, only to find that he hadn't let go.

"I have to ask," (Y/n) looked between Dazai's hand and to him as he spoke, meeting his eyes as he asked, "are you and Kunikida dating? Cause you seem way too beautiful for someone such as him."
